Dish Network in Canada

Hey, I am headed to AK next summer and was wondering if anyone has an easy way to figure how to point the Dish Network in Canada. I asked the dealer and he said that they cannot legally tell us how. I am sure I can do it by just scanning the sky, but this might take 15 minutes or so.

Okay after using the satfinder page(www.satsig.net)

Make sure you pay attetion to the notes on decimal degrees

for E/S LAT/LONGs otherwise it gives really wacko info!!!

According to Dishnetwork

they have 7 birds in service however JTrack only lists 5

their locations are:

Echostar 1 -148 equates to 148 west lat is O=equatorial orbit

Echostar 2 -147 " "

Echostar 3 -061 " "

Echostar 4 -119 " "

Echostar 5 -119 " "

I just checked this using the info for my DirecTV eqpt and it was within . 2 deg. seems close enough!

So just fill in the top three Boxes and hit "Calculate" on the software.

Hope this help/works sounds like a great trip!

Hey thanks a lot for the website. It is great. I can just plug in the lat/long out of the Milepost book and voila. The only thing it won't do is give me the mag heading once I get north of Watson lake. I just grab my aeronautical charts and look up variation for those places. I was surprised to find how close i could get doing it by hand and plotting it on a chart. I was usually within 3 degrees magnetic and 1 degree on the tilt, but I wouldn't have known that with any confidence. I am looking forward to the trip.

I couldn't get any reception very far north of the border. According to some DSS people that I talked to the signal is blocked by shields on the sattelite. I had no luck anywhere in Canada and Alaska. I understand that Canada has their own system and is not compatible with ours.

Hope you have better luck.

You might want to try calling Satellite Alaska--I would think they'd be able to help you out. I know the owner, and he's a good guy. 907-243-7475.

Going to Alaska..... well, no... . Actually, the Yukon. I am leaving on Wednesday with my Alfa and my white '99 3500. If you see me you will know it's me when you look into the cab and see a young looking old man with a big grin as he enjoys his CTD with the Easy Comp on three. There will be a few decals identifying me as a firefighter... . retired,... and an American Flag decal to announce my pride. The NRA sticker is there too, on the truck, but you'll have to look closely, if I'm towing. I am headed up that way to deposit some of my late wife's ashes at the Banff Springs Hotel where we were married in '89 and then on to the Yukon. If any of you Canucks have any suggestions as to routes, etc. get them to me by tomorrow night... . 9 July 02.

BTW... I am going to try to keep a good log of performance/MPG?Comp settings/etc. to post upon my return. But don't bet on it as my travel companion may distract me. :D
