I always watch my FP closely and with 66k miles, it always idles between 10 and 13 psi. w/ heavy throttle no lower than 8. Yesterday I did the scheduled service and changed the fuel filter. I added a schrader valve to the top of the outlet banjo so bleeding off the air is easy, remove the core, slip on a hose and put the hose in a coffee can to catch the fuel when it comes up. Well, I bumped the starter to give the computer the signal for fuel, and within SECONDS the coffee can was full and starting to overflow. This is the OEM pump from the factory. I will probably still get a backup, but I love the feeling when "My coffee can runneth over!"

Have you found that bleeding the air after changing the filter helps for a quicker start up? I always hate the filter change becuase it seem sot take so long to get the air out of the system and for the truck to fire... ...

Absolutly!! The KEY to a swift and easy fuel filter change is to just BUMP the starter, turn the key "Off" then "On" and be ready to catch the fuel. The "Bump" gives the computer some signal that the lift pump needs to run, and it will run for MANY seconds. This fills the filter canister and you are ready to start! It still must be vented. Makes FF change painless.

Installing the schrader valve... ..... how are you holding the schrader valve open while bumping the starter? Or are you venting the air through the drain tube? I always bump the starter several times... but the air is killing me.

I just take a valve stem remover and pull the "guts" out of the valve, slip a small hose over the top and into a can. Once the fuel comes up, I just replace the valve core. No muss no fuss as they say...

Only changed my fuel filter once so far - and added a Frantz fuel filter to my system which also allows air into the system - but with an added pusher pump for extra flow and pressure, truck always has fired up as tho' nothing has changed... ;)

I was feeling good about my lift pump also

My lift pump seemed to be exactly like yours. Excellent pressure and volume. That was until last Saturday when the motor failed and the pressure went from 12lbs. to 0lbs. in about two seconds. Barely made it off the interstate and into a gas station parking lot. Truck would barely idle or move. I've probably found 10 bad ones on other people's trucks, and they didn't notice a problem with power. That wasn't my case though. Pump went from working great to dying in a matter of seconds. Truck only has 38K on it too. Definitely carry a spare if you do any traveling.
