The PJ brand from Texas is what I use for a tag. The 24' deck over axles in GN or Tag is nice with two 7K axles. My new one has a 4' dove tail. I think its about 8 and 1/2 wide. No complaints so far, I looked at Big Tex, Anderson and PJ. The Anderson's were nice too. I really liked the welds on the PJ, the trailer seems to be built solid. They are not "light" trailers, keep in mind the empty weight on the ones over 20'. The 24 footer is nice when you want to haul a tractor with bush hog and loader. Remember to factor in the tongue length too. I haven't measured mine, but its probably 6' or 30' over all.

I was checking out a couple deckover GN's. One was a Big Tex, and I can not recall the other. Both were spring suspension, and looked very well made. The rear dove would have to be modified. They had that Metal stairstep design that they promote as self cleaning. I think it would be great to drive on, but fear walking up and down would quickly disturb an ankle or a knee. I would have to have a different design, and also a different design on the ramps. They are big time heavy, and appear would require lifting from above, and tossing them down to the concrete with great force. I could be wrong, but that looks like the way they work. I would also need something that would allow for a more narrow ramp. I think something could be fabricated pretty easy for this. All in all, I think I may be better off with a low profile deck between the wheels. I would sacrifice some deck, but probably not all that much. By the time you consider the rub rail, and stake pockets I assume you are down to less then 96" of useable deck width, and likely a bit less. I assume you can get 82-84 wide in a low pro, and would not have to fool with the added length of the dove, with a lower center of gravity.

I think maybe my brain is mush from toiling over so many decisions.

Thanks so much for all your thoughts and experiences.

If you go with a fold down ramp, make sure its the spring loaded type. A full width beaver tail would be my choice far a landscape rig. Probably a speacial order, I didn't see any in my shopping, just in the brochures.

Pricey ;)

We manufacture primarily goosenecks. Pulling a tag vs a gooseneck is a different world. You just have to give the gooseneck a bit more attention. Turn wide and give yourself enough room to get out of sticky situations.

The problem with a narrower lo-pro comes into play if you have tandem duals. Your tires will be sticking out. If you go with tandem singles it shouldn't be that big of an issue.

If weight is a concern you're looking at a minimum of 6000lbs.

I ended up getting a 14K dump /GN from BRI-MAR. A little dissapointed about the wiring but otherwise looks good. Got it last year. The dump is to make it usefull for getting and moving material and heavy enough to haul my machine. Then I see a hydraulic tilt that would also act as a dump if I put on removable sides. And the sides would be off and out of the way when hauling the machine. Should have looked deeper for what I needed earlier. Oh well.
