Since the new A-pillars are so big why would anyone want to tint their windows dark enough to inhibit their vision that much more?
I'm not sure where you're from aseigworth, but JimScott's location gives his perspective away. It's not hot up there. I've spent most of my life living in Florida, and I can tell you that temps reach 180F+ inside the interior of cars parked out in the sun. Tinting the windows and using a foldable type sunshade on the windshield DRASTICALLY reduces these temps. My truck is black, and I can tell you I couldn't live without the tint.
Before I got my cummins, I was working as a sales rep, driving a Jetta TDI. Since I spent so much time on the road (again , in FL), I began to get a pretty bad sunburn on my left arm, from where it I'd rest it on the doorsill. I for one have seen people with skin cancer, and it's not a pretty thing. Factory glass, including the back 'tint' does NOT block UV's whatsoever. Most quality aftermarket tint blocks 98+% of UV's, which helps prevent drying and cracking of your seats and dash, not to mention skin cancer. Once I tinted the windows my arm never got sunburned again.
Tinting windows to the legal limit does not inhibit vision in either direction for those with normal 20/20 eyesight... it's just the guys out there with the super dark limo-tint or those with bad eyesight that have problems. I can see out of my windows on a dark rainy night just fine. Anyway these are just some of the reasons that a few of us 'want to inhibit our vision' by tinting our windows.
Now to make this totally off topic post cling on for dear life

, I'll add that on past vehicles I've had tint that was legal in one state and illegal in another state that I lived in, and was NEVER hassled about it by police or any authorities. I know that police officers don't like it because they can't see who's in the car when they walk up, and in the few times I have been pulled over for speeding or something, I have always put all of the windows down and my hands in plain view as a courtesy.
