I installed an Edge EZ box last weekend in my 2001. 5 ETH/DEE. Wow, really makes for a lively drive!! I like it!

My problem is, in 3rd or higher gears, at 1700rpm to 2000rpm, my clutch slips. This is with the truck unloaded too! I've got only 15,000 miles on the truck.

So I was wondering if this is common, and whats the opinions on a good clutch upgrade? I tow a 10,000lb 5th wheel with my race bikes and equipment. I'm worried that my next long haul to Daytona will be a mistake with the clutch in this condition.

I don't want to give up the EZ box though, its great. (and now I've been contemplating bigger injectors too)

Clutch...

I have a SouthBend @ 10000 miles. You gotta pay to play ;) . I have the MU 2001 Con. OFE. This is a very smooth clutch. I also have reduced pedal pressure. So far I have about a 1000 miles and no slippage. Sam

Welcome to the weak clutch support group, all ETH/DEE owners are members ;) . When I had to choose, there wasn't as many choices. I have a McCleod Dual disk and am very happy with the clutch. Holds everything I throw at it (see my sig. below). Purchased through JVD and they are good folks to do business with.

The SBC clutch for the ETH seems hard to beat, it get's great reviews here by the members and Peter has a real concern for our needs and is committed to customer service. Doubt that you would be disappointed with either choice, make sure that you pick a good installer if your not doing the job yourself.

Maybe....

I wonder if you have one of the "Hot" ETHs that puts an abnormaly high amount of power to the ground stock, then you put an EZ on it and it was to much??

If I remember correctly Peter has posted that he has seen the factory clutch compound vary alot. . some good some bad. Maybe you could finish it off and have it replaced under warranty and possibly come out with a better one.

I still wonder why the ETH clutch sucks so bad?? I have a 99ETC with an EZ and have stomp shifted 3rd to 4th pulling almost 10K with no problem(not recomended lol). And Hiperf360 got a 14. 88 out of his 01. 5 ETC truck on a greasy but "holding" stock clutch. Kind of Backwards

My truck put out an abnormally low amount of power stock, so my clutch was fine with the EZ, but went away when I added DD3's.

I had the South Bend Con-FE and it's a great clutch if you intend to race or stuff, but for normal uses, the Con-OFE (or OFU, I forget) is the way to go. I just got one and it's AWESOME. 99% of the grabbiness of the FE is gone. It feals almost exactly like a stock clutch!!

Peter tells me I'm at the limit of that clutch's holding ability with my mods, so if you intend to go farther than what you see in my sig, go for the FE.

I had mine at full power last night on the freeway while dusting a pimped out orange lowered Tahoe with 20" wheels and the clutch was holding just fine. :)

My stock clutch is still holding in there (but I think it's on the fringe of its life :p) with an EZ and 275's... could be that I have a weak motor, strong stock clutch, or somewhere inbetween... . I'll let you know in a week when I strap it to the dyno... .

South Bend will be the replacement when the time comes to upgrade-by spring at the latest as I plan to make a major jump in power then!

It seems that temperature and humidity have a lot to do with how the CON FE works. when it is cold here and the humidity is high... ... Chatter City:eek:

once things warm up to NOT the clutch is smother, but still grabby, I wonder if it is the same thing that happens to the brakes when it starts to rain... . a little corrosion on the parts making them grabby?

I will say that the more I "abuse things" the better the transmission shifts..... I am still puzzeled as to why the clutch drags at times and not others..... could be bad hydraulics.

I made it about 75 miles with my EZ pulling a trailer with the stock clutch. I put the SBC in and then added DDII's, no problems with almost 10,000 miles.

I am glad to see you two guys got that clutch thing figured out, I hate to see people argueing.
