2017 Ram Laramie just got letter from FCA about update for navigation for 149.00 This is bulllchit. I think I will go back to my portable Garmin GPS that has lifetime updates for free. As much as you pay for these trucks and extended warranty you would think they with have liftetime updates for the navigation they charge a outrageous price for. Truck came with it I did not order this one. If I would order of this would not be included.
And this Uconnet something I never used. And the letter say Uconnect software update must be performed before this map update can be purchased and installed. Something else they probably want to charge you for. They not getting any more money from me.

Never had a letter with that offering, and haven't updated mine . Like you not paying that for an update, will go without before I do that .

I was glad my 18 didn't have nav for the exact reason you listed. My garman has life time and using Android auto I have access to Google maps. Don't see much use for overpriced hard to update nav system.

Most of the time we don't bother with our navigation on either of our vehicles, we just use our I phones . I will probably not get NAV on my future vehicles .

The radio software updates are free.....the nav updates go on sale every so often for $99.......

I'm all for paying for the time to the tech to do this if I choose to go that route, but a lot of this stuff is locked down and you can't add it in by yourself all the time, so you are stuck going to them for alot of this.

We got 2 trucks recently both which were supposed to have back up cameras, the first was the camera option group was $585 or something on the window sticker, the second we noticed camera did not work the first day we got it, I checked the window sticker it had park sense group which was $265 or something, but no backup camera option on window sticker. So technically I did not do my due diligence and read the fine print before signing.

It physically had a camera just was not programmed into the uconnect package.

It turned out service charged me $159 to program the camera into the unit. I figure I could complain and go back to my salesman since this is my 6th vehicle this year, but I was still ahead by about $100 and have parking sensors and a camera on one, going the service route and not the sales route.

You never win, but sometimes its not bad to go back and see what they can do for you in service.

And you can do the Update of the Uconnect at Home, just go to the Uconnect Homepage, fill in your VIN, download the update to an empty Stick.... it is straight forward.

I thought the Nav worked the same way, with the empty stick?

No.....they send you a loaded stick and then you get an activation code from their website. It takes over an hour to update. I haven't used it enough to see much difference but also haven't driven down any roads that aren't on there......I probably wouldn't have paid the $99 for it if I wasn't trying so hard to spend my kid's inheritance.......:D

Yes, they also charge you for Uconnect. I received the 1 yr free trial on my 2017. At the end of the trial they wanted $159 I believe...was not worth it to me. As others did, brought out my Garmin with free updates.

Fine, so if someone lifes in the countryside with not many new roads built he cannuse it as long as he wants to, no need for an price update.

But i also think updates should be free for lifetime of the vehicle.

Correct, you can keep using. You do not need the upgrade

We've gotten the same letter for my wife's 2012 Honda CRV . Need to update the GPS and the cost is... I've yet to do it. I have doubled her insurance as she uses the car GPS all the time..... Lol

I think many auto manufacturer's charge for NAV renewal . Garmin does have free life time subscriptions on some units , however unless you have super high hookups loading them through the internet take about 8hrs.
