I put a set of 3k rpm governor springs in my pump awhile back and I belive I ******* the adustment up. The truck doesnt get used hardly at all but when it does it now breaks up around 2k rpm. Its worse when the ambient temp is cooler. Anyway I want to check the gsk adjustment ( reset it ) but have nothing to go off of for a base adjustment. What can I do ??? Any ideas ?? There has to be a base to get me close. Either a measurment or by doing it by counting the clicks. Has anyone had this problem before?? Granted I might not have it off but I would like to check and make sure. Help !!
Thanks everyone

I think I remember most go with two clicks after initial contact. Someone else will chime in with more accurate info.

That would be great if thats all I have to do to get me in the ball park. Iam ordering the tools to adjust the pump timing tomorrow and want to make sure that the gsk are correct ( or close to it ) at the same time.

hsmith, Is right. But it is easier this time. You can go in from the top. Take the AFC housing off and the fuel plate out. Then bring the spring adjusting nut up and back it off until the spring is loose under it. Then take the nut down until it just touches and then two more clicks bring the other side up and do it again. Make sure that the nut is against the spring and mark the AFC and fuel plate position so you get them back in the same spot. Don't let the fuel plate screws or anything else fall in the pump.

Thanks for the info guys. I am going to run the valves and redo the gsk this weekend. Next weekend will be the pump timing. So what happens if the springs are set too tight ?? Does it defuel earlier ?? Anyone have any links for some good govenor spring info ?? I searched around and didnt find a heck of alot on the adjustment. Thanks again.

About the only thing I have found with the springs adjusted to tight is when you let up on the throttle the engine will want to keep on going. It's really hard to drive a manual tran's. Let up and the engine RPM's stay up and are real slow on coming back down. It's like the engine wants to run away on you.
