Any Subaru guys here?

Looking for some opinions.

political correctness and watching what I do to make other people happy about my actions is so far gone in this country it makes me sick! I'm tired of letting others dictate how I act, how I talk, what name I call someone of another "ethnicity", etc. It ain't their problem, and I don't butt into their life and try to tell them how to live it.

You, or anyone else has the right to be offended by what I say, but being offended is part of life... grow up, get some thick skin, and learn to deal with it... it's called humility, you're parents should have taught you that. My parents' did a heck of a job of teaching me how to laugh at myself and take a joke. You can't rattle me by poking fun at me, or what I stand for. I'll listen to any argument you want, and 95% of the time I'll pick the opposite side to your stance, even if I agree with you 100%, just to screw with your head for a minute. Know the best way to make someone who's arguing with you look like an a$$? Talk quieter and quieter the longer it goes... soon they'll be yelling at you and you're just standing there looking like nothing is wrong... . gets them every time.

Anyway, back to the subject..... screw people!! Maybe I'm anti-social or whatever, but I go out of my way to please NOBODY!!! You don't like me for what I am and what I stand for? GET BENT!! You are nothing to me or my life, so I don't really care what you think about me.

In the grand scheme of things, we're all pretty much just a speck of dust, so why get all worked up about others?

Dl5treez is right, the smoking certainly isn't helping anyones cause. Can you guys imagine if EVERY vehicle on the road did that, if every driver sat at a light and floorboarded it to show off? The thought is well kind of funny, but then well stupid.

There is a punk kid down the road from me that drives an old 12V that just smokes like a chimney. It's gutless compared to mine (no offense 12vers!) but geez EVERY turn he makes he romps on it. One day his turbo is going to blow right off, he barks that thing every where he goes.

I do think the name callin thing is getting out of hand, and ofcourse the i can kick your ass... NO YOU CAN'T thing is getting a little silly. Just disagree and part ways. Here's one; put a little thought into what points people are trying to make, see it from a different perspective than your own.

Oh my god, someone actually posted with calm, level-headed LOGIC, and NO name-calling:--) I don't think some of the people on this board are going to know how to handle that. :-laf

But anyways, I completely agree. I do try not to smoke too much if I can avoid it, in traffic at least. I find that rolling into the -40 can actually give me plenty of getup and go without billowing out the coal. You do have to wonder why some of the people who complain the longest and loudest about regulations are the ones doing a lot of the smoking/smoke stories. Go figure.

Just because I'm not a farmhand who does manual labor all day doesn't make me worth any less or more than someone who does. I don't know why you seem to think that's the only way.

Dojo is the name for a place where martial arts are studied. Nobody said anything about karate, BJJ is not even similar. Nobody's hiding here, and bjj is certainly not BS. Go to your local dojo and challenge the instructor if you need a lesson in humility.

However my post proved that I 'like ignorant city folk' proved that I have no common sense when it comes to diesels, please do let me know. I know quite a bit about diesel fuel technology and lubrication, much of which is 'useful' knowledge that helps take better care of my engines. No, I don't know anything about agriculture or care to... never claimed to either. You act like we 'ignorant city folk' should bow down because you provide the meat and grain we eat... yeah well we provide the money that buys it, hence paying your electric, gas, etc bills... . it goes both ways.

lightman, in light of the current situation at hand i think you've effectively coined a new term for me.

The next time someone pisses me off, i'm going to go do-jo on their ass!

Don't make me whip out the do-jo!

Keep pushin it buddy and you'll get the do-jo!

man the possibilities are endless!

I do take offense to someone poking fun at me and I take it very personally. This hasn't been the first time you've done that and won't be the last. Soneone that feels it's necessary to directly flame another becasue of somethign that was said and not aimed at them need the lesson in humility.

:D Rhickman, pretty funny. I never thought of it in the context you've used it, so you may have the coinage rights:-laf Dojo is widely known as the standard name for a martial arts studio... but enough common facts that some find overwhelming ;) ...

I do feel the need to reply here, as I too am a thick-skinned, ig'nant, corn-fed, down-home, died-in-the-wool southerner.

I don't know either of you, I don't know ya'lls backgrounds. I do know that if ya'll both don't start acting like civilized adults you are just going to get another thread locked. This argument is pointless as ya'll are both trying to prove why one socioeconomic background is better than the other. When ya'll BOTH need to suck it up and realize that each is dependant on the other. It's called economics. Lightman's society goes hungry without the food supplied by the farmers, Rebel's society goes under without the funding supplied by the city buyers. Are ya'll happy? Ya'll are both right.

Rebel, I have many years of martial arts experience and know that I could disable someone quickly if I had to.

Lightman, I ALSO know that with my Browning . 300 I could kill any martial arts instructor at 1000 yards without batting an eyelash about it. Each side has its advantages. It gets down to personal preference.

Now each claims to want to get back on topic, but yet each of you you continue to end your posts with some sort of jab at the other. How about ya'll both just drop the whole thing, forget it happened, and lets talk more about this anal retentive @$$ that felt compelled to report someone because of getting smoked for being a jerk himself.

Remember, it takes a real man to admit when he is wrong.

I never claimed anyone was better, whether they are from the city or country, or from different socioeconomic backgrounds. I was simply making a point about rebel's stab at city folk and having a little fun with him at the same time... As for real men admitting they were wrong, I believe at the end of a post I certainly did admit fault for antagonizing and egging him on a bit. I also noted it was in jest, which apparently was too much for some of us.

Wsmalley, I can appreciate your moderate view of the situation and will ignore your slightly patronizing tone because I think your intentions are good. Very interesting that you can shoot martial arts instructors without batting an eyelash. Is that legal where you're from?;)

wsmalley, I totally agree with your comments towards this whole situation.

Here's a question for ya'll. How in the world does someone get reported? I'm guessing the genious writes down your license plate number (if they can read it ;) ) then they make a whining phone call, but to whom? I'm guessing in Cali they'd call CARB but where else? The EPA? The local sheriff? It would seem, at least to me, that the agency that sends this type of crap would have better things to spend taxpayer money on. They could at least take the time to research something before sending letters such as these. Oh well, as long as I stay away from those areas I'm guessing I won't have to worry about it anyhow.

And just as a side note to the farmer/economics thread... . Most farmers now-a-days, where I'm from at least, aren't getting by. Many are only surviving because the banks are so many millions (yes, MILLIONS) into them, that they can't stop giving them money or they'd lose everything. The small guys who are only into the banks for a few hundred-thousand have almost all gone under. Yeah, it's great being a farmer... wonder why I'm at school to be an engineer? I will tell you though, if farming was now what it used to be, I'd be knee deep in spud harvest right now with my own crops... there aren't too many lifestyles like that of a farmer. None I've ever seen compare to the things you are able to do when you till your own land.

Disclaimer: The before mentioned statements are in no way meant to slam anyone who is considered "city-folk. " You lead your life, I'll lead mine, we'll meet sometime and talk about it over a couple barley-pops.

Oh, and I like wsmalley's view on the . 300. Who needs self-defense when you're a mile from the other fella? ;)

Anything is legal from 1000 yds when you pick up the brass ;)

Too funny snowracer!

Oo.

This is totally off subject but where in the world do you get the cool pictures and emoticons in your postings?

Well admittedly I need a lot of practice to hang with you country boys at that distance. My local range doesn't allow rifles or shotguns for the most part, unless they fire hangun caliber ammo. I really dont know much about rifles, never had a place to shoot one or hunt. I'm new to firearms, and only have a little . 40 caliber glock 23. Getting better with more practice but a long way to go.

Good question rebel, I have no idea how anyone reports anyone else. Maybe they call those 'clean air people' where the survey is supposed to be sent. Damn tree huggers ;)

Lightman, you're missing a lot of cool stuff. Firearms are soo much fun. I guess I've taken it for granted having shotguns and rifles around. Can't imagine what it would be like to not have 'em. Scary. I don't wanna call them people... they might send me a letter too. :-laf Then again it might be kinda cool to get one... kinda like a trophy. LOL!

Couldn't have said it better:D

Having a Marine Expert rifleman for a father and growing up around friends with lots of empty acreage has had a very profound inpact on my love of pistols and rifles:cool:

I too would like to know how this stuff gets reported. I mean, it's basically just heresay. There are no witnesses, nothing to corroborate it, nothing. It's like the Nazi's back in Germany reporting each other for making dissenting statements. #@$%!

That's what I was getting at in my earlier post. If it's that easy I could just go down the road all day and report people. In the wintertime we could just report everyone who's car is smoking. what about the pos cars that have blue smoke pouring out of them constantly as they go down the road. It all seems like a waste to me. The reporting agency should take the time, but if you think about it, it's probabyl just an automated deal. What a load. #@$%!

Rebel, I'm theifing the smileys I use from a thread on www.glocktalk.com This one to be exact: Smiley thread I just right-click on the smiley, hit properties, find it's URL, copy and paste as an image here. The URL is from some other site, it's just that some of the best ones are on that thread at Glcoktalk, so I use them.

Lightman, 1000 yds is not my fortay (sp?) either... yet! My longest confirmed kill is a little over 350 yds on a rockchuck w/ my . 22-250. Course, I haven't been out prairie-doggin' yet, but when I do, I'll be going for the 500 yd. club with my . 223 and . 22-250.

Am not 21 as of yet (January, thank God) so I don't have a handgun. When I turn 21 (in January... can you tell I'm excited?) I'm going to take a CCW course and purchase a Glock 36. I always told myself I'd never own a Glock, 'cause every punk kid wants a Glock. Then I discovered that beings how I'm left eye dominant and shoot left handed (I'm actually right handed, but was switched to shooting left handed when I was 6) that the only pistols I can easily manipulate with my left hand are Glocks. All 1911's are almost impossible for me due to the location of releases and safetys. I'd love a Kimber 1911, but just can't work the stuff on them.

Look, the thread went from :-{} to #ad
and #ad

:D

Glock model 23, good weapon, also my pistol of choice.

It's always kind of scary and cool at the same time watching my dad shoot his pistol. He can take a side stance with a target 30 yards away, bring up his arm and turn his head to meet it, squeeze off five rounds as quick as his arm can come back down, bring the target back and there be a hole the size of a silver dollar in the targets forehead:eek:

Always a good method of motivating me to stay in line:D

I'd love to get a warning like that, I'd put it on the back of my dyno graph in the same clear plastic sleeve:-laf

That letter kinda would be quite a trophy for someone with a modified, well running truck or car. I think it might be somewhat depressing however for folks with a really old 'beater' that simply can't afford to fix their car. Although, it is getting more and more rare that you see an old 70s or 80s gasser thats just really burning up huge clouds of smoke. They do stink a lot worse than a tasty cloud of diesel smoke. I am certainly awaiting a letter, but am not holding my breath. I dont think florida really is too uptight about emissions like some states. We dont even get tested here.

You guys with lots of space ARE lucky with the firearms. I am very new to them in general. I've only had my glock for a month or so, and have been at the range a few times a week practicing. . it's a lot of fun. Certainly nice when I'm 80 miles into the everglades on my atv to know I have a little more protection than my hands and feet. While the above point is somewhat valid when someone said why study martial arts when you can have a gun, martial arts is about a lot more than killing people... . its great excercise, physically and mentally, and I've made some good friends doing it. Highly recommend it for the couch potato types... I had been guilty of being one from time to time but thats history!
