It talked with him a few minutes ago - he sounds horrible (sick). He was trying a set of wheels and tires from a friend and in a week the lug nuts backed off on one wheel and it departed :eek: . He borrow four lug nuts from his other wheels to get to an auto parts store. In 3 miles 3 of those four had backed off nearly to the point of falling off. Needless to say he won't be using the wheels - he found out afterwards that the guy he borrowed them from had trouble with the lug nuts backing off and that's why he wasn't running them.

Would you mind going over to the UPRR yard and snatching my new truck? I'll come get it this weekend.

I was towing in Idaho one time, came across a lug nut in the road ... then another, then 2, then a guy towing a trailer, then the wheel. :{

A worse one was driving E of Reno on I-80. I came across an 18 wheelers duals in the center divider. No axle, still bolted together & to the brake drum. A little farther up on the right was a guy towing a travel trailer. The wheels came off the West bound truck, crossed to the East bound traffic & hit the rear of the trailer, right behind the rear tire ... kind of went right thru, diagonally. Mess on the road, could see inside the trailer. Then came across the 18wheeler. The duals came off the outside rear axle of the 2nd trailer.

Long ago I had a 74 chevy with the full time 4wd, lifted and heavily bombed. Awesome truck by the way. Anyway I had put on some aftermarket wheels which I had been running for several years. Was driving down Deer Creek Canyon here in Colorado. It is your typical narrow, windy, twisty, steep canyon road. Just came around a turn and hit the brakes to slow down some for the next turn and my truck immediately pulled into the left lane and onto the left lane shoulder before I got it stopped. I hopped out of the truck thinking WTF. Then I saw it. My drivers side front wheel was riding on the front axle hub. All of the lugs had sheard off. When I went to try to replace the wheel (because the center hole had gotten out of round from riding on the hub) I was told they quit making wheels the way that one had been made because the center did not flex and that what happened to me was exactly why they quite making them like that. Scary to say the least.

I think there is a little more to this story than what is being presented. I ask the moderator to close this thread for the sake of both partys involved.

Alright ya bunch of 'ol women... ... ... ...

It was no big deal, for one reason or another the lugs backed off on one wheel, and off she went, end of story, no harm done.

When I get over the FLU, I'm going to inspect the wheel that went for a ride (I have removed those, and put on my other wheels/tires) to see if I can see what the problem was/is. They were only on for one week, and this was only a problem on one wheel (all the others were still properly torqued).

After I re-installed the wheel (in the road) I used 4 lugs from the other wheels so I could get to the store to buy more, by the time I got to the store (3 miles away), 3 of the 4 lugs that I had put on (with a 500# impact wrench) were loose enough that I could see threads, makes no sence to me. So that hub got all new studs and lugs, and everything is back to normal.

Jim, what the hell are you talking about?

Me and a buddy were coming back from a hunting trip going about 70 mph when a semi tire and wheel came bouncing across the median doing at least 40. It just missed the driver's side mirror. It was over before it started-- no time to even get skeered
