Looking for a good Diesel Shop in VA

Nevada 6.0 P.S.D report #4

Here's my take on this situation. You paid for a product expecting it to perform as it was advertised. What you got was crap. You should either get your money back or get a product that works like it should. I think your direction towards the Dept. of Ag. is a good way to go. If this guy (fuel supplier) thinks he's got problems now, try dealing with the Dept. of Ag. They can be a real pain in the derrier. Good luck!

Excellent letter, Steve, very well written! If I may nitpick, "... I had verified the problem was there's. " It should be "theirs".
Let us know the outcome! Whatever the outcome is, I think you should write up an article to be published in the TDR, for the benefit of all the members who are not on the internet. Then, you could forward copies to Debbie and Terry, and their supervisors!

The word is - STILL no word. I did get a post card in the mail this week that the AG's office is contacting the party involved and that I'll hear back from them. I finally figured out a way to ship a quart of diesel fuel to my analysis company so I can get hard data to back it up. So I'm still waiting for the AG's office right now. But the truck is still running great!

Well I got word back from the Attorney General's office. The fuel supplier basically said that no one else complained so there isn't a problem. They also included their fuel delivery reports. The AG's office said since they have no jurisdiction over fuel quality that there's nothing they can do and closed the case. They recommended that I try small claims court and I'm researching that now. Since they now have paperwork from the AG's office that the case is closed it may be difficult to win though. Trying to decide at this point if it's worth it to continue to fight - or just take it as a lesson learned.

fuel analysis?

Just wondering on what the fuel analysis was. Did you happen to have someone else get a five gallon sample later on from the same station to compare it to? Fuel analysis will be the proving point in court, having two samples from the lab to verify that the fuel came from there will put the nail in the coffin.

Good luck Steve.

Bad Fuel

Steve and anyone else having this problem -

Grab a gallon can of the junk fuel from the same pump and using a glass jar look at fuel from your tank and compare with the sample to see if they look and smell the same. This will geve you something to work with when you call the marketing department of the fuel supplier. You wouldn't belive the number of times that fuel delvery driver will mix a load... anything from motor oil to naptha.

Also if you are buying from a station that has only sold 450 gallons in a day, look for a facility with a higher sales volume.

Call around to local diesel shops to find out if any diesels came in with same symptoms you had.

Contact state congressmen to see what they can do if not nothing immediate they could always add another item for the AG department to check out.

How often do members get bad fuel? Is this common? Where can you buy fuel to limit your chance of getting the bad stuff? Sorry I am new at this. :)

D Latimer,

Try to fuel up where they move a lot of diesel fuel. If diesel fuel sits around algae or other bacteria that reak havic on you fuel system can form.

Truck stops or where you see trucks( even pickups with diesels in them) fueling up are the beat places.

The convienent store where I fuel up moves a lot of diesel, there is a lot of construction going in the area. There used to be only two places you could get diesel fuel now there are four but the trucks use this one the most because there is more room and price. Plus a sod company's four semi's fuel up about every day.

Sorry to here about the bad fuel. I got into some last year and it took several filters to get the stuff worked out. I too now have fuel pressure guage and I with I would have had one back then it would have save a lot of guess work.

How much pressure drop accross the filter should the filter be changed?

Kent

Kent,

The FSM states 5 psi @ idle. However, If I saw a 2 - 3 psi variation at idle on my truck, I would change the filter. I replace my fuel filter every 7,500 miles and have never seen a pressure drop accross the filter greater than 1 psi :D

Time to show them who's BOSS

Steve-

Let's get some chains, we can all put our plows on and unleash the wrath of the TDR on that station!!!

Just joking, but seriously if you need an extra truck let me know, I'm only a few miles away (just southeast of Lansing)

TTT

Steve, what was the end result of this bad batch of fuel?? Did you get any compensation?

I always buy fuel from the local Pilot off I-75 (GA exit 142, i think). There are ALWAYS at least 30 Class 8's in there filling up or sleeping. i get crazy looks filling up my weenie 34 gallons, but I never have to worry about bad fuel. It's one of the biggest truck stops i have seen.

If all else fails, you can pull a homer Simpson and just slap the guy with a leather riding glove as you announce "I demand satisfaction!"

HAHA

HOHN

The end result is NO I didn't get any compensation. I ended up writing it off as a very expensive lesson. I have started a LOT of fires in the last 2 years with diesel though - and I still have about 25 gallons of it left :( .
