I just received my GSK today, and with the search still down, i was wondering if anyone had any good tips for the install?

The one thing i am not sure of is where the measurement is taken with the dial calipers. Is this from the center post, to the top of the retainer?

Contact HEMI®Dart, He had some of the best instuctions out there when I put my Governer Spring kit in. Piers also was great help when I was adjusting the rocker adjustment.

Stick, use the instructions you can get on line, I did mine by counting the turns to loosen them then put them back the same, then later had to loosen them 2 clicks to get the throttle right..... another OK TDR guy, that makes a few of us now.

Installed the GSK last week. Went thru the side, not thru the top. Did not 'dip stick' (vernier) the retainer position on the fly weight post. Counted the number of 1/4 turns of the retainter to remove and re-installed retainer with the exact number of 1/4 turns. No problem! Do not, I stress, do not remove the shim from under the outside diameter spring (idle gov. spring). Pier's instructions say to remove 'all' shims, but he also says not to remove the 'outside' spring. This is true.

Other than the above notes, the install was a non-event. Results were very impressive. two

Hope this helps.

I recived mt GSK last week but it looks kind of overwelming so if you do find any good tips let me know I'm reluctant of doing the job by myself don't want to screw anything up.

I have gone from the top and bottom plug on mine. I always measure to the top of the lock nut adn retainer stud. . Not the retainer. Seems easier to me. One thing I found that makes getting back to square one is to paint mark the retainer before you remove the lock nut.

Too tight on the lock nuts and idle gets too high.

Overall, it aint hard to do. I have it down in about 45 minutes from start to finish now.

The GSK install only looks scary. Just go ahead and do it. It gets easier when you actually start working. After you are done, you will wonder what were you afraid of. I think back to the time when I was afraid to try and change my fuel plate or fuel filter.

measure this...

I agree with GMIKEP,

just count the number of clicks/1/4 turns,Mark the nut and retainer. .

and do not remove the idle springs(outside/biggest), To get the side-plug out you have to remove the lever linkage on the outside of the pump. it blocks it a bit. dont loose the key/slot that keeps it on the shaft correctly.

I opened the top AND pulled the plug, It made it MUCH easier to turn the nut and remove and install all the goodies. also i recomend using the 4K kit instead of the 3K kit. youll have quicker accelleration even from 2000 to 3000 with the added baby spring, just be wary of the rpms after 3400 if you dont use the heavy valve springs. ;)

I got mine from Piers just before the big rush of orders for it. :D I ordered it at the end of January and it came right away.

GMIKEP,

Theoretic question here, what happens if you remove the shims from under the large springs?

Also, does anyone know the inventory you should have of parts that are left over after the GSK has been installed? or does the number of shimms differ from pump to pump?

Thanks

Stick your from up around Tulsa right? I am about 4 hours from you I think. It's good to know it went that well I have to get the nerve to do mine when my truck gets out of the shop.

OSMITH

Shim under outside spring (idle speed spring) sets governor base idle speed. Removing shim should/will lower your idle speed 50 - 100 RPM (est. ).

I had 6 springs, 6 shims, and 4 spring seat parts.

There were 4 springs on each side, 1 large, 1 med, 1 small, and 1 real small. I left the small spring out because the directions say to remove all springs except the large one.

I removed the shim under the larg spring, and yes, the idle dropped about 150 rpm's. I just increased the idle speed on the back of the pump.

Feels like a different truck now!!!

I have noticed the truck seems to prefer the upper RPM's now. I have to pay a little more attention to the speedometer, I've found it well over 80mph a few times when before, I used to have to push it to get there.

Hey thanks for the replies.

I had the gsk installed for me by a deisel shop... . I didn't have a place or tools to do it myself. My idle dropped significantly after the install, that is why I asked about the washer under the large spring, I'm guessing that they removed it.

I watched the mechanic try to set my idle by adjusting the length of the throttle cable  which didn't seem to be working. So I left there, went and bought a 10mm wrench and did it myself at the back of the pump.

Mine definately revs up to 3k and doesnt feel like it's defueling, but I didn't notice a huge difference  I think someone who's got a transmission mod and a TST probably will feel the difference more than someone like me who is basically stock.

Just a side question . . are you guys getting 3k rpm while wot in OD??

Thanks for help. .
