Here is my story. I have a 2015 with 83,000 miles. I got a check engine light and then a see dealer for exhaust system service. Truck started blowing black smoke and then quit me, also there was no countdown to limp mode. I was going to delete it and thought I would double check that it was out of warranty. I had been told emissions warranty was 80,000 miles but when I called the dealer much to my surprise they said it was under warranty. I gave them the VIN number to double check it and they assured me about 10 times that it is covered. I got a call today that it is not covered by warranty. They said dpf was full and a sensor was out, I don’t know what that would cost but I’m sure it’s expensive. The truck has been sitting at the dealers lot for 6 days. Really upset now I guess I have to figure out a way to get it to a shop that will do the delete. Do any of you know what a clogged dpf filter costs to clean and if it’s even worth it?

Fix the sensor. It was likely keeping it from fully cleaning the filter and move on. Or delete. There is a very good chance the filter is fine unless the smoke was from a crack that may have developed.

Update truck is still in the shop. They called me yesterday and quoted $4,600 to fix/clean dpf. I told them I would Delete before spending that amount. I asked them to replace faulty egt sensor and do a force regen. They asked me what kind of fuel filters I used. I order all filters from genos garage and change them every 15K. What would that have to do with a clogged dpf? I asked them when I would know something and they said they had to order egt sensors. I couldn’t believe they didn’t have them in stock and the tech told me most just delete. Waiting to hear back.

Genos has great filters. Sometimes on Amazon you get bootleg filters in a Mopar box. The dealership was likely fishing to find a customer pay situation where they could claim poor maintenance. Replacing a bad sensor should allow the filter to be cleaned. It was getting bad signals and not regenning. But, the concern is all the smoke you saw. That could be a cracked dpf. Delete it if that is the case. I paid for the epa junk once when i bought the truck. I would never. NEVER. Pay again.

Trying one last ditch economical fix before I delete. Dealer took off dpf filter and it’s been taken to a third party business that cleans them by baking them. The guy told me that all dealers do is try forced regens which don’t work if they are plugged full. We will see. Dealer replaced 2 egt sensors under warranty and couldn’t get a forced regen done.

I have been interested in if the baking works on these smaller trucks. I know it worked well on our freightliner. It had band clamps that made it easy to get baked. IIRC it was done @ every 150,000 miles or as needed.
