Hard to get out of park

I have a 04 that is getting very hard to get out of park. It act as if the brake isn't being stepped on. Also at times it doesn't wont to go in park. Went to a ball game tonight and thought it wasn't going to come out. Any one know how the brake and the gear shift is set up? When I got home I left it in N. and set the parking brake. If anyone know's or can tell me where to look it would be great.

It's the foot brake interlock failing. A common problem with Gen III automatics. The interlock is a small microswitch on the steering column up under the dash. It has a couple of wires going into it and is mounted so that the pin protruding from the end of the switch prevents you from pulling your shifter out of Park position. Stepping on the brake pedal sends voltage from the brakelight switch to the microswitch retracting the pin and allowing the driver to shift out of Park.

Physically remove the microswitch leaving the wires connected. You will be able to pull the shifter out of Park position without stepping on the brake pedal.

The interlock switch on my '06 failed like yours when it had only 35,000 miles on the odometer. A transmission tech at Frontier in Lbk removed it for me and zip tied it to the column. It was still that way when I sold it at 230,000 miles.

I had my mechanic buddy disable the microswitch on my '08 when it was brand new. I don't like being forced to step on the brake to pull the shifter out of Park.

Thanks for your reply. I am 65 miles East of you, 3 miles South of the White River Lake on a ranch. Been here for all of my life. I get in to Lubbock just about every week for something.

That sounds simple enough. When it warms up some I will see what I can do. I will let you know what I find.

You're welcome. Hope my "diagnosis" and advice were correct.

I was just jerking your chain a little. I live in a farmhouse on US-82 east of Crosbyton about 1/2 mile from where FM-836 turns south to Spur. I pass through Spur almost every time I go anywhere and enjoy riding a motorcycle down the backroads to Spur and around the lake in your area.

Now that was easy. Thanks for making it easy for me. Now it changes easy, should have been fixed long time ago.

Do you live there or is this your get away place? How long have you been there? I know you have done a lot of work around there and it does look good.

I am not far away, maybe 10 to 15 miles as a crow would fly. White River come by my home about three miles below the Dam.

So you ride a motorcycle? I have one that seldom gets rode. It is a Honda Shadow that has less than 5k miles on it.

Maybe we will see one another some day, would like to meet you.

Thanks for your comment. I bought the place a little over two years ago. I feel like I'm living in paradise living out here with all the wonderful open space and freedom. I love the beauty of the canyon views and the good people of Crosby County.

I'm retired and I live here full time. My wife is younger than I am, still working at TTU, and won't even talk about selling the house in Lubbock. She shares time between both places. Wierd, I know, but it works for us. It probably looks like nobody is home much of the time because I keep my truck in the barn out back and the gates closed.

Yeah, I bought myself a bike last summer for my birthday. Hadn't ridden in 30 years but hearing and seeing the bikers cruising by out here every day in the spring, summer, and fall finally got to me.

Are you a farmer or rancher?

I'd enjoy meeting you for coffee sometime. There is another TDR member who lives in Crosbyton and several Honda riders over around Dickens. Two are retired LPD cops and one of them is also the recently retired Dickens County Sheriff. I rode to OK and AR with them back in September or October. Good bunch of guys out here.

I do know the retired Sheriff, I thank the motorcycle had something to do with him retiring. He would not have had a problem winning again.

Yep, you've got it. Spur was once a major ranching center out here in this region. Several wealthy big ranchers lived there. A few fine old homes the old ranchers built are still maintained and occupied in Spur. It's a nice little ranching town with a typical old fashioned feed store that sells farm and ranch supplies, but not a lot more.

Anybody able to explain the actual solenoid removal process? I'm able to move the little red lever on the electrical connection, but unable to unplug it. I wiggle the solenoid, but unable to disconnect it from the entire assembly. How is the solenoid attached to the BTSI assembly?

There is a tab you have to squeeze (Pinch with your index and thumb) then pull. I just unplugged mine after it left me stranded in the middle of no where. </SPAN>
