Had a good day skiing today, but when I started the truck to leave it started real hard, sputtered a bit and then cut out. It was cold all day (about 10deg) so I gave it a second try and noticed that the wait to start light did not come on. Went ahead and started it anyway and it smooted out when it got up to temp, but then I noticed that none of the guages were working. The panel was lit up but nothing was showing any sort of reading. Then the ABS, seat-belt and low fuel light came on and the odometer started blinking. So I checked all the fuses that I could and nothing was blown. I decided to figure it out at home and drove off but then the transmission wouldnt shift! I could safely wind it up to @45mph (no speedometer). It turned a 2hr drive into a 3 1/2 hr drive. I'm thinking it must be some sort of limp mode, or maybe a fusible link. What gives! Oh yeah, the truck is a 98 12v Auto. Gonna work on that Signature soon

Are you sure the batteries are alright? I had symptoms like that last winter because one of my batteries was disconnected. The other battery had a hard time keeping up and Sometimes when the grid heater kicked in, everything would die out. I drove 45 mins. with no high gear, I could only imagine what you went through.

This happend to me every morning while I was vacationing at the oregon coast last summer. There is a 3 prong connector that plugs into the back of the transfer case. Overnight the salty air would get in there and corrode or oxidize the connectors a bit and I wouldnt get tach/speedo lockup or overdrive until it dried out or I jiggled the connector. I buffed the metal connectors inside and filled the holes with dielectric grease and havent had any more problems with it.

I ran the self diagnostic test on it today by holding the trip/odometer button down while I turned the key to ACC. I got these numbers - 920 and 921. I found out that 920 means the cluster is not recieving a vehicle speed message from the PCM and 921 means that the cluster is not recieving a distance pulse message from the PCM. Does anyone know any possible causes for these codes. I have an appointment with the dealer on Thursday and I want to be able to spot any BS they might toss my way.
