has anyone dyno with there heater grid and then removed it

i seen a lot of peolpe remove the grids so i CNC a splacer to replace the heater grid you could run this in the summer and put in the factor heater for the cold . . Hope it's worth some power THANKS for any input

Well, I'm not so sure.

On one hand, the intake grid wires are mostly flat, and don't seem to be restrictive. The percentage of cross-sectional area they cover has to be pretty low.

That said, when dealing with compressed air, every little thing makes more of a difference. Why? Simple-- compressed air is more viscous because it is more dense. That means that things that otherwise would not have made a significant restriction might now be worth considering.

But I think you'd have to be on the far side of 100psi for it to matter much.

If nothing else, it shows what a skilled machinist on a nice maching can do!

THANK for the input i am going to flow it on a Super flow 600. . and hope to dyno it by Sat. on a stock truck and one with twins ... if nothing else it looks good for show thanks i build 10 power bloks i will get them out there for more tests

I've removed mine, and only noticed a 15* - 25* cooler idling temp, but no decrease in cruising temp...

The big downside of removing the grid heater is, the heater itself acts like a screen, so when you pop, or huff, a turbo it catches alot of pieces, and keeps 'em from going into the motor.

Be sure you know that you are taking that risk when you remove your grid heater...

(Also be sure to disconnect the "triggers" on the grid heater relays. . ) You might get a code that says something along the lines of "insufficient temperature raise detected from IAT during startup)

It's a cool mod to tell people about though. I've put about 10,000 miles on mine since I ripped the guts out of my grid heater.

you could run this in the summer or just at the track or pulls. and keep the heater grid in one piece for winter. . or sale it? thanks

now you make one--I destroyed the grid when taking it out--got to impatient and was stupid--would've been nice to switch em out with one of yours--let us know what happens on the dyno... . chris

in what? Top end? Cruise? Heck, if I keep putting stuff on that's supposed to drop my EGT's 100*F like I have been, pretty soon I'll have a nice icemaker for an exhaust manifold.

somebody mentioned this the other month. I was told that HVAC had gutted his on his truck, but supposedly saw no increase of any kind. Now I am wondering if he was holding back on some of his secret info. :D

the egt drop was at WOT install on a 02 HO with a edge stack with TST comp. 275rv and stock hx-35 4" exhaust his WOT temp before 1500 deg. after 1400 deg also 4lbs. loss of boost reading boost in the intake horn before the heater. . he told me the truck cools down quicker at shut-down also. hope to test on a truck with twins soon thanks
