Well, I've read one too many filter threads to feel good about oiled filters.

It also seems to me that a filter made for a 240hp application is going to be a notable restriction at 400hp #ad

I can say for a fact that the filter minder moved for the first time right after I installed the Blue Box. #ad

Looking at one of our graders the other day, with a little 4 cyl. Cummins- this had a paper filter, cylindrical, about 6" dia x 16" long. Plus an inner filter inside that. Big filter for a small engine, but of course it's a dirt machine.

Has anyone come up with a combination of Fleetguard or other paper filters made for higher flowing engines? That's what I would like to try.

Mike

I was buying filters, etc. for big Cummins from a family owned retailer that specialized in filters of all kind and shapes. He even got an oil filter for me for a 1947 Cummins. He bought a Dodge dually to pull a big 5th wheel,, then started to add goodies. Unfortunately, I did not own the Dodge/Cummins set up at that time, and did pay close attention. I've since moved 75 miles away and acquired the pickup. Anyway as best I recall, he would not use the K&N as he felt it did not provide adequate filtering. What he finally used was a filter used for the 6BT in marine applications. BUT the downside of this was that he was now sucking air from under the hood (warmer), but was working on the problem. This doesn't help much so I guess I should make an effort to get over to see if he has solved the problem. If and when I do, I'll advise.

Recently someone was talking about an airbox solution from a large truck and wanted to pipe the intake down towards the bumper. A search of the site might find you that thread. I suspect it is exactly what you (and I) are looking for.

For me my dirty environment has me worried about the oil'd filters also.

I just emailed you that thread. I decided not to post the link as the topic turned into a real flamer. The author has some good ideas but I don't know if he ever did anything with it.

Good luck, I'm interested in what you discover.

I did some more searching; after reading Joe D's post about the miniscule changes in dyno results between the OEM filter and no filter, even on a high hp truck, I have decided to try the same myself.

In the interest of science, I will run the truck with the factory filter, then none, and get some data. I'm going to wait until a couple more mods get done, so I can test under more extreme conditions.
