awe crap... that means my problem may have been covered under waranty... . Oh wait, I don't keep good enough records to be able to show proof of filters I've bought. #@$%!
I'm about ready to go in for another VP44. Truck has 83000 but was bought in 01. Sure like to see some action on this issue as I've already replaced the VP44 once and have no confidence another one will last any longer. DC/Cummins might do something about this problem if faced with fixing these pumps for 136000/8yrs. .
very good work and congrats on getting reimbursed. I would suggest that everyone print a copy of this thread and keep it, if your warranty situation is the same. I too was told that the engine warranty was done at 5years/100total miles even though the book says otherwise.
Good Job,
J-
I hate to see this kind of thing go to litigation but DC is leaving us folks with no choice. It's probably time for a class action lawsuit. With the cracked blocks and bad pumps they could stand to lose a BUNCH of money.
Problem is, the consumer picks up the tag one way or another.
The problem with the VP44 injection pump has little to do with any modifications an owner may have made, the pumps were/are failing on emergency vehicles, fleets and any Cummins that had the VP44 especially,it seems, for the 01 and 02 model Dodges. . The fuel pump also fails regularly. Cummins stepped up to the plate and replaced all of the fuel pumps except for Daimler/Chrysler products meaning us. In any case the Warranty clearly states the Cummins engine is covered for 5yrs/100,000 miles beginning at the end of the basic 3yr/36,000. If we are going to be stonewalled on a defective product that is clearly covered then I think legal action is warranted (pun intended).
