i found this batmowheel for stock 60mm turbos

03-up cummins batmowheel

would this be a good upgrade, i don't want to sacrafice any spool up actually to increase would be great, and i also don't have a budget for a aftermarket turbo and also have a jacobs exhaust break behind it anyways that i plan to retain. i also know that the 9cm exhaust housing is tight and heard that it is restrictive causing high egt's, is there a way to use a vgt housing and make it work on my 5. 9 and also be able to either use the vgt brake or retain my jacobs behind the vgt?

Not sure the year on your truck but I have an 06. RIP at source automotive put a 62/14 with a second gen manifold and retained my EB without beating the firewall love it over 300k and running strong.

I would not believe this hype from the site [Billet batmowheel for you 03 and up cummins 45hp gain over stock wheel

I][/I]

Had a friend using a similar upgraded turbo and liked it for a non towing truck. I would think maybe 15hp a more realistic gain

You might get improvement on an 03 but thats not an HE351, its an HE341 with a smaller compressor wheel. They are representing this as a replacement for an HE351 and saying 03+ for years. That pretty much tells me its hype and they don't know what they are talking about. The HE351 is an 04. 5+ turbo.

The single biggest problem with the HE351 is not the housing, it is the cam. You would be further ahead changing cams than turbos if you want to maintain spool and driveability for a basicazlly stock engine.

Otherwise, figure to spend $2k to get a good turbo that will emulate the stocker characteristics and provide better air where it is needed.

The stock comp wheel on the HE351 is not the issue, it's the tiny stock turbine wheel and exhaust housing. The HE351's actually use a very good comp wheel, but can't expel the exhaust good enough, 2:1 DP:boost ratios are pretty easy to obtain on the HE351.

Your money would be better spent on a different turbo. I really like what the Garrett Stage 2 did for my truck from stock tuning to +100 it woke it up and it drives much better.

The batmowheel is for a workstock pulling class where the stock turbo housing must be used to compete in the class. the 45 hp claim is with 35 lpm injectors, better air intake (or none) and open exhaust. Would any aftermarket turbo work better? sure! but this a small help in a class where we run against bigger stock turboed' d-maxes and twin turbo 6. 4 fords... every inch counts in sled pulling, and this can give you an inch or two over a guy running a true stock he351. or another brand truck. On the street? not worth it, but it accomplishes what it is made to do in the competition world.
