i purchased my 97 earlier this year. it orginally had the large stationary tow mirrors on it. the previous owner put the flip out tow mirrors found on the newer models. my question is it has the defrost function in it and is not used. how do i find the timer power board or does anyone know how long the defrost stays on after it is activated? i can find timing circuits on the web and do some fancy rig-o-nigging with a relay. i just dont know how long to make the defrost work for. hot wiring it to a switch would be easier but with the car i drive i tend to forget about the defrost being on, im sure it wouldnt be good to leave it on the whole 40 minute drive to work. also my drivers side mirror has play in the fold in joint. it wiggles really badly going down the highway especially in tow position. has anyone had this trouble and have a solution for it. the truck has enough vibration without the morror wiggling too.

thanks,

-Justin

The tow mirrors that came on the 2000-2002, that are manual adjust, do not have a defrost feature.

How about a picture... The 2nd gen factory flip out tows did not have any heat. They might be after market Kool Vue's which are electric but mine don't have the heat emblem... or they could be CIPA's or Powervisions. A long shot is that somebody swapped the mirror heads off a 3rd gen mirror.

they are power mirrors and have the little heat emblem on the mirror face.

Your mirrors have been customized by using both the 2nd gen base and the 3rd gen head. The pivot was where they were spliced together. I think if you did a search on here you may be able to find the instructions for doing the swap which will show you how to fix the loose pivot and hook up the heater feature
