MADDOG, How long until we get to see what that bumper looks like with a front clip behind it? I have a feeling it won't be quite as imposing... (I did say quite)

Ken,

That's a ways down the road. First there's engine, trans, t cases and crossmembers and skid/belly pan fitting and fabbing. Then fuel cells (2- 35 gal ramcharger), skidplates for them, flatbed, rear bumper (it will match the front, minus the brush/critter gaurd),and rollcage. Front and rear bumper, flatbed, and overcab light/cargo rack get line-x or vortex lining/coating.

Then it will be time for sheetmetal.

I love the buildup. I have checked it out and it looks great. Overkill rules!!

Good luck on the sale of the 440. If I was closer, maybe for an RC, but the diesel bug is a stout one. I will check the build to watch the progress. Looks fun. Good Luck with it

the buck stop aint a bad looking bumper, but im looking to more of a texas style cattle pusher if you know what i mean. Jensen, i like what you did with that bumper, its a real nice looking bumper. do you have any pictures of it on the front of the truck with the grill/body behind it, so i can picture what it will look like. Good work. did you bend the pipe yourself or order it? If you did it yourself, how in the world did you get it so perfect with out even a kink.

also, the slight tilt you have it at midway up... . did you cut it off completly then reweld it at an angle, or just take a wedge from the back and heat/bend it? wow, i really like this bumper. i would add some personal touches if i made one for myself... . but man, that is a slick lookin bumper.

thanks a bunch for the follow up. i have been drawing up some ideas for a bumper of my own and it really helps to see what the finished product might look like from the picture you gave. thanks a lot. that is a beast of a bumper to say the least. looks fantastic!

Mine is not yet painted or with winch, but it is finally on the truck. Main center loop is 2" square tube, outer loops and crosshairs are 1. 25" Square tube.

well done! Im about to start on my bumper before to long. i plan to lift the truck 2. 5" in may and then ill be able to support the bumper.



i think ive decided on the one im going to base my design off of. a member on here had one built for him and i really liked it. heres a picture of his bumper (i hope you dont mind me using you photo)... and the 2nd gen on the bottom, has the same design im goin for. You can see a picture of the bumper i have drawn up, in the thread "First Generation in the New Generation"

Now I need to paint it and assemble winch. Right now in primer it kinda dissappears. One weakness. When I hit the front receiver on the rocks, it bent the grill guard forward a couple of inches as the receiver is below the frame tie in. I need better bracing to the crossmember. 3/8 plate 14" wide is not enough. Needs some angle.

I did not hit fast, but I did push hard and dug a groove in the slickrock.

That's why I decided against a front reciever.
I went with round because my eyes see a rounded truck. To each their own.
But, can you also extend/fab the frame channel foward, for strength?

I don't see fabbing reinforcement to be a problem. The thoughts on build were to keep grill guard away from the grill not close to it.

I used thickwall square tube to have the most rounded corners from the square tube. I will agree that the dodge is rounded square, now my Studebaker C-cabs are round... .
