Need Steering Help

I just got my truck back from Les Schwab. They said my truck was out of Camber and there was nothing they could do. The truck only has 30k miles on it. I personally have put on 12k on it since July '10. Does anyone know what can be done to fix this? The readings were as follows. Left: Actual 2. 84* Before 2. 81* Right: Actual -3. 05* Before -3. 05*. The cross camber is 5. 89* and it was 5. 85* Before. They fixed the caster and toe and those are in spec now and did not charge me. The only thing I have done to the truck is put different wheels and tires on. The offset was a little different on the wheels by . 25" and the tires are 295/70R17.

Please advise,

Joel

You can buy Adjustable Balljoints for Camber adjustment. But you need to know how much of a change in degrees to get the right ones.

I forgot, the guy that had the truck before me had airbags under the rear axle and took those out and put on his new 2010. Could this have caused the issue?

It seems funny that Les Schwab could not tell you the reason why your camber is off. The air bags in the rear would not or should not do anything to the front end. If the big wheels and tires had anything to do with it Les Schwab would have said so. It's not unheard of for these trucks to come from the factory with the Camber off. Just like the trucks that came with out an adjustable track bar. They put a steel plate under which ever wheel that would make the front end track the same as the back end. But really if the truck is driving good I don't think I would worry about it unless the tires start to wear funny or fast. Besides the Ball Joints on the newer trucks don't last vary well. (about 70000) So you can get the adjustable Joints then. I don't know about Carli Joints but NAPA has them.

A little tweak of the front axle can cause this too. Had a friend come down hard on his front end while in the dunes, you could see the tires were off camber a lot with the bare eye.

If those numbers are correct for the camber you don't need an adjustment, you need a new axle. The only way you could have a split that far is if it is bent. That is assuming everything is stock and in the right place.

Maybe you took your truck to the wrong place for a wheel alignment. I take my vehicles to a shop that specializes in Wheel Alignment only, not to a tire dealer.
