Kev,

Thanks for the offer. It now looks like Fireman Dave, Fest3er, and I can get them to California in three legs.

If we need some more help, someone will be in touch.

just got back from LA. i will e-m everyone later tonight after i catch up a bit (get laundry in the dryer then to the grocery store for kitty litter. . for the cats and the darn amsoil sampling port that comes out tomorrow).

okay..... you know this is nuts right? gonna make one helluva story...

fireman dave, loren, fest3r...

Americana, Fireman Dave, fest3er,

The wheels are now in the Cincinnati area. I picked them up yesterday afternoon. You all have my phone number and e-mail address, I think. I'll send an e-mail to make sure.

Thanks to SmokinRam and his partner, Doug, for the offer to help pick them up. As it turns out, I was able to get them myself directly from Brad. Also thanks to GTX, cumminsgetme, Kev, K_Arts, and all others who offered to help. As it now stands, It looks like fest3er will take them from me, and Fireman Dave will be carrying them the rest of the way to California. If something happens and we need more help, someone will post something.

The wheels and tires look fine, by the way, with the Michelins and the simulators (wheel covers) on them. I was tempted to mount them on the truck and try them on the drive from Pittsburgh to Cincinnati, but I resisted. I have my own set of wheels, minus tires, sitting in the garage. They will be getting tires mounted in June at Rickson. Then I can enjoy mine too.

One final note: Robert, the TDR magazine publisher, doesn't print items in his magazine that present just the negative side of a story. His philosophy is that there are always two sides, and without hearing both viewpoints he is reluctant to provide a forum for just one half of the dispute. I met Brad when I got the wheels and I'll just say that there are also two sides to this story. I'm not going to get in the middle of a dispute, because I haven't heard the whole story either. (Nor do I want to. ) I'm happy to help out with getting the wheels to americana, but I don't think that Brad is the evil shyster he is presented as here.

Americana, Fireman Dave

Fest3er picked up the wheels from me in Lawrenceburg, IN just a few hours ago. They are on their way to Chicago. Our second leg driver has the pertinent phone numbers for contacting our drivers.

By the way, fest3er has Rickson wheels on his truck and likes them. He says that the handling improves a lot with the new wheels. His are just like yours, americana, except he doesn't have the wheel covers installed. Driftwood truck, driftwood wheels... Looks good.

I'm looking forward to getting mine mounted next month.

Short update. I'm set to meet Dave sometime Tuesday in Madison to transfer the tires to him. Then it'll be up to Dave. If all is well at his end, he'll have them in CA in early June.

You're welcome! Glad to have been able to help!

As an aside, do we, as a group, tend to be ... mmm ... long-winded in person? :D I've only been to three events - Scheid '99, GLTDR Muncie '00 and Hell, '00 - but we sure do seem to gab a lot! :) Perhaps this should be a poll?

Fest3er

yes we do!

i'll have to say yes we do!! dave's lovely wife suffered us fools very politely. dave's a helluva nice guy as proven by his 2,500mi leg of the rickson pony express! we (at least i) could have gabbed all day, but he had promised to show his wife and daughter some of the san francisco sights.

this motivates me greatly to attend a tdr event. hear that HVAC, i am actually motivated, now, to go to an event!

Glad to hear that they got there okay, not that I ever really doubted it.

I got mine installed about the same time you did, americana. Our vacation trip last week took us to the DC area, near where Rickson Wheels is located. Dan and Mathew took good care of me, even though one of the wheels I brought them needed to be replaced. They got all four painted at the same time and still had me finished before I had to depart for home.

I just installed the speedometer correction box a few hours ago, so I can't really evaluate the whole package. The first thing I noticed was that the gearing didn't change noticably. My second observation was that the truck actually rode a bit smoother with the new tires. I expected a rougher ride because of the higher unsprung weight, but it didn't happen. The third thing was that the tall 4x4 doesn't seem any taller, even though it is.

It was a big expense, even with the purchase of the used wheels. (Buyer beware. One of mine was bent. ) The only way I can justify this money is to keep the truck until the tires wear out. I understand that this will take over 100,000 miles. That's fine with me.

You think we are long-winded in person. I can even be long-winded on the web.

Home Safe

Hey guys,

Just got home tonight. 3 weeks and 5600 trouble-free miles. 15 inches of snow at Yellowstone the day before we arrived!

Don't let Peter fool you, I didn't have to go out of my way at all. I was practically going right past his door. I did notice I had a little extra room in my box after I met Peter. ;)

Peter - we had dinner that night at the Fog City Diner - a neat little place.

It was a great trip - probably the best vacation I've ever had. I'm thankful for a safe, enjoyable time. I'm going to post a thread on my travels - probably in the towing forum. There are a few interesting observations and stats from the trip.

Dave

This may be an old thread, but it's a good one.

It's pretty neat how some other members stepped in to help this guy out. :)

Yeah you wont find a group like this very often on the net or anywhere else for that matter. Now for the real test of generocity... does anyone here want to buy me a set of Ricksons??? I'll pick em up! :p
