Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) HELP are youi in the Sacramento ca area?

I'd like to borrow an engine oil dip stick for about 3 hrs

98 12v engine



mine broke off the handle and slid down the tube

the SMOG referee won't pass my truck without the dipstick in place

(long story)



I have one on order at Geno's but is backordered and not sure when it will come... found one at Piers' but the shipping will be $20+ just for ground shipping



I need to get this smog thing completed so I can get my reg tags. .

appreciate if anybody (in greater sac area) could help.

Can't help with the dipstick but it just shows how stupid some agencies have become. Your crank case is wide open to the atmosphere and they are going to fail you for an open 1/4" tube.

I have a 12V sitting in Corning that I am parting out. You can borrow this one but it is a drive from Sac to Corning and then back again.

Just stick the handle back on there. When the bureaucratic dope pulls it out, pitch a fit about "him breaking it off". Demand not only a new dipstick, but the labor costs to get the broken piece out.

That's a good trick, I like it.



Seriously, about removing the broken blade from the crankcase. Could it pose a problem if left in there?

Depending on the engine, I have heard of them getting wrapped around the crank. Not good. I don't know the potential for that to happen on one of these cummins, but I would be worrying about it for sure.

Pull the tube off at the bottom really easy to remove I am in northern cal Yreka area I have one but am a ways from you

If the issue is crankcase fumes out of the open dipstick hole, just stick any dipstick in the tube long enough for the inspection dipstick to get his jollies. His ain't quite touching the oil, either, if ya know what I mean...
