Well... at 264,000+ the Getrag 5 speed in my '93 4x2 D-250 is quickly heading south. Maybe already there!

I headed out for Myrtle Beach SC Friday morning to do repair/maintenance on my bro-in-law's trailer. Wouldn't you know I had ALL of the supplies/tools in my truck. Had trouble shifting into 4th & 5th but it finally got into gear with gentle coaxing. THEN I could get back to 3rd, but not 2nd. More coaxing. Then had 2nd & 4th, but not 5th. Went on this way until I got to the beach. Had the same problems coming back, but I left early Sunday morning with light traffic, so once I was going in 5th, I had very little shifting to do until I got back to Raleigh. Went straight to Lowes to return some sheathing, and the shifter came up out of the transmission about 1-2 inches. I pushed it back down and pounded it in with my fist, and came home. In 4th.

On the bright side, I did average 25. 6 MPG on the round trip!

I can find nobody in my area that works on/rebuilds manuals. I did find rebuilt units at Standard Transmission in Texas. Anybody have experience with them? Or know of a closer source to Raleigh, NC for a new (LOL) or rebuilt Getrag? I have no shop to work in, so I'll have to farm out the install if I can get someone to do it after I supply the transmission.

Try SouthBend Clutch or Blumenthals Transmissions. SouthBend is is in Indiana and Blumenthals is in Oklahoma City. Either one is closer than TX and will be able to point you in the right direction. Good luck. :)

Thanks for the replies guys. I had some local referrlas also, and have ordered a rebuilt unit from Man-Trans in Talahassee Florida. 12 Mo, unlimited milage warranty. $1,500. 00 Shipped to a local shop that agreed to put it in for me. Couldn't get a timely rebuild in NC, and this is my daily driver. AND I already have the 5-30 Mopar oil! Thanks for the heads up!

Need to change my sig file. I have 264,000+ on it now.
