THE 285-75-17 Nitto Duragrappler is the last 17" tire with a higher load rating that I'm aware of.
I did have 285-75-17 Toyo MT's with a sidewall rating of 121/3195# and they were rock solid after 800 miles.
More solid than my identically rated AT2's.

coopers, the ATP's i do think have a 3 ply sidewall.
BFG's are a good option as well. i got 80K out of my last set or BFG at's

i'm a fan of the coopers though. very happy with them on my 04 cummins truck.

285/75-17 Dura grapplers for 27K miles so far. If they continue to wear at the current rate they will be lucky to make it to the advertised 45K. With more than half the tread gone they are tight. Almost returned them when new due to extreme tread squirm and/or this relatively new phenomenon of new tires having to finish curing and wearing the mold release off. Took a few thousand miles to get used to them. Not sure if I'd buy them again. Had Toyo ATs (made in Japan) before these Nittos and they did not exhibit the same foul handling when new. The toyos went 50K and probably had another 10K or more, but I wanted more tread for the winter. I'd go with the Toyo's again if the same tire was available, but unfortunately its not. Good luck with your decision, it is not easy when you have to spend over a grand and you get stuck with the choice for years.

I'm starting to like the Nitto Terra Grapplers but there have been a few complaints about vibrations and not being able to balance them.
Any body had this happen?

There was also one guy that had an F#50 and used these to deliver RV trailers and TC's. He got a ton of miles out of them. That's more like the use they would see with us.

Ive personally never had any issues with mine, but I run the Centramatics so I don't know what it would have taken to balance with weights. I've briefly ran them up to 110mph on a desolate section of freeway and they were very smooth. No weird vibrations at any speed for that matter.

I have the Hankook Atm in a 305/55/20 and LOVE them. I had the Coopers before and they were ok except I wore them out too quickly in my opinion. Also had the Falken Rocky Mountain ATs and they lost much of their siping and tead blocks with about half the tread depth still on the tire. They became a highway rib!
These Hankooks seem to be wearing much better, have excellent traction, and they are ridiculously quiet. The set of 4 cost me about $1,100 at Discount tire. I think I have about 40K on them now and still have half the tread depth to go. Anyway, thought I'd chime in.

I have had 2 sets of the Nitto Terra Grapplers,on my 2006 Dodge in sig, one in 285 17 then 275/65/20. Handle well, tow heavy loads very well. Not great in Snow and or lite mud. Downside is treadlife. My G2's in the 20's have 15K, and at the wear rate will be done by 30K or less.
I too am looking at an alternate. My other tow vehicle is a 2003 Chev 2500 with 8.1 BB Gas and Allison 5 speed running Cooper RTX, very happy with this tire although in a 16" size. Thinking I will go Cooper on my Dodge .... Or Toyo AT. BFG is a great tire, however I have had to have thes tires rebalanced on my wifes F150 a couple times. Good tread in snow [AT's] Good luck as I have yet to find a tire running on a diesel and towing moderately that will get 30 K mile with decent tread left.

I have the latest Toyo OC AT variation and they are holding up very well. Got them last year after thanksgiving. I need to check mileage and tread depth and post here. After getting over the initial tire squirm I'm loving them every day.

I got 62 k out of my D rating terra graps. (295-70-17) I just replaced them with E rated G2 same size. I love them, and they are priced right.

Does anyone know; do the newer factory 18 & 20" rims have the same bolt pattern as my 17's? Any problem with using those (besides possible tire choices)?

Same bolt pattern, almost the same back spacing, they fit fine. You actually have a much better selection of tires sizes for them also. Next positive is they allow enough room to easily build a cross over steering setup

If the OEM 18's fit the 2nd gens I would have a set. For whatever reason, there are fewer selections in 17" wheels than any other size. Including 16"

Cool thanks for the info.
So if there's anyone out there with a 4th gen and 18's or 20"s let me know if you want to sell a nice, low mileage set of 4 with (if low miles) or without tires. I especially like the 20" 2015's...

I'll be out of town for a week but then I'll check back here.

Thanks guys,
Scott

A friend and I both got Nitto Terra grappler G2 tires at the same time and couldn't be happier. Snow, mud, sand, pavement—they do it all well and show barely any wear.

If the 4th gen fits the 3rd gen and the 3rd gen fits the 2nd gen, why won't the 4th gen fit the 2nd gen?

Nick

I've got a set of 4th gen 17's on my truck and they fit fine. The problem with the 18's is the center section of the wheel is much smaller and the axle on the Dana's sticks out too far. Spacers are required for the clearance, which kinda kills it for me.
