I tow about 50% of the time in the summer.

At the moment i get a drone around 60-70 when slightly lugged on the motor, and it drives me nuts.

I need from the cat, to the back

I live in the south, but plan on keeping the truck for a long while, but i don't care if its shiny or ugly.

I need a reasonably cost effective system thats quiet. Oo.

So please if you have a existing setup PLEASE chime in.

TIA

I went to a big rig shop and purchased a 4" i. d. muffler for a big truck. It is roughly 10" o. d, and about 30" long. It is straight through, but has 3 built in expansion chambers. It is extremely quiet, no drone, and I think it was around $70-$100 for the muffler. A muffler shop that works with 4" pipe could easily get you set up, however I did mine myself.
I like my stuff quiet, and this fits the bill.

Did you have the drone when stock and do you think the new muffler is as quiet as the original?

Thanks,

Scotty

Mine had an aftermarket muffler already, one of those 4" I. d, louvered jobs that is about 7" diameter and about 18" long. The drone was bad enough while towing our 8,000 camper, that my daughter was getting nauseous in the back seat!!

It's SO much nicer now. I would say that it's only slightly, if any, louder than a stock exhaust. Also, my twin turbos actually cut the sound a bit, too.

i have only looked a genos, but this is what i kinda was looking at... price is good
But i am guessing the muffler is loud. . ??

The MBRP "Performance Series" cat back type exhaust system for the '04. 5-'07 Dodge
Item Number : MBRP-S6108P

mine is split at the small inverted muffler, but the exit from the first doesn't look so good either.

Any other manufactures i should look at?

I have a MBRP on my 04, Very very dronie when under load. I wound up installing another (2nd) muffler in the system. Now is is much better. If I was to do it again would go with a big truck size muffler. .

Pretty sure that's what mine was. It was a 2 foot section of pipe and the muffler. The section of the pipe had a jog in it to allow for the offset factory muffler.

4" Silverline Aluminized turbo back here. Added a FTE 30" Muffler/resonator and kept the silverline muffler in place. Mounted the FTE as far forward as possible and the drone and annoying noise when towing is gone. FTE muffler/resonator is well worth the purchase.

I vote for the Donaldson 41" 4"Inlet/Outlet muffler. it is straight thru and sounds great. I left the rear resonator. I think it was $77 or so. It sounds great and does not drone. On my last truck, I had the Silent Might muffler by Rokteck but I couldn't find that one anymore. Their site said it was on "indefinite backorder". That sucker was heavy and huge but it was very good sounding with no drone. My $. 02

So were you able to just remove the stock muffler and fit the Donaldson on there with just a bit of pipe shortening?

Yeah... I actually had a local muffler shop do it and they just did a bit of "creative welding" where the rear of the old muffler was as it makes that hop over the axle right there. It took about a 2 foot length of 4" pipe right off the back of the cat. I would have done it but a lift makes that operation a lot better. My MIG isn't as pretty either. Cost me $120 for the r/r and I happily paid it... new hangers and all!
