So two years ago this month I parked my truck due to a blown headgasket from 80K miles of 50+psi. Well when I took it in to have it fire-ringed they said one of the exhaust seats was badly cracked so I ended up getting a new head. Long story short... I finally finished it. Unfortunately... no start. First asssumption is obviously to bleed the high pressure lines. OK... still not starting. I can get a sizable squirt out of each line at the injector. even took off the horn and bled #2. I am stumped! After sitting for 2 years I have no idea where to start. Any thoughts?

Just a couple of thoughts 1. How old is the fuel? 2 Are the valves properly adjusted? Good fully charged batteries giving you a strong crank. It's hard to say for sure not being there. I rebuilt mine about 8 month ago due to a cracked 53 block and had no problems starting. Worst case, I think it is possible to maybe hook the injector tubes up wrong on the pump end and think they are right. Just a few thoughts. Good luck to you and hope you get it going again.

Ooohhhh! You live in the "land of little sun" which is nicer than saying "land of much rain". Were the fuel system components sealed from moisture during that time? With all that humidity hanging around all the time I could see those parts rusting internally very quickly if not properly protected. Hhmm, just a thought.

I assume you have a fuel psi gauge and are seeing good pressure before cranking? If so I would then do a VP test by putting + and - to two pins in the VP connector which will rule out all electronics other than the VP brain. If the VP is good and you are getting fuel it will start and idle, nothing else. If it still won't start the VP is bad. If it does start then the wiring or electrical is the culprit. Follow the hookup procedure in post 4 of this thread https://www.turbodieselregister.com...nsmission-1998-5-2002/74018-testing-vp44.html

Dumb question...

Is it getting plenty of air? I. e. : Could something be blocking the air intake or filter?

Also, I'd try fresh fuel for the startup attempt. Maybe connect a source of fresh fuel to the intake of the lift pump.

Good luck,

John L.

try just a squirt of either to see if it will even hit, if it does then you know that you dont have a real big problem, then start checking the fuel lines and such. i agree it is easy to cross fuel lines on the injection pump.

:Update:

Is there an honest TDR member nearby that can loan me a hand? I need someone to shoot me in the most painless way since someone of my stupidity should not be allowed to live.

Problem... . VP connector unplugged  *slap forehead*
