My truck has started to make a audible noise when turning the steering wheel. (Can hear it even over the Cummins at slow speed with the windows open. ) I would say it sounds like high-pressure fluid passing through a restriction. I had someone else turn the wheel while I was under the front of the truck. It seems to be coming from the steering box. I do have the DSS bracket, but it was not installed for the first 50,000 miles, I now have 90,000. The truck steers okay, has power steering, and the steering box is not leaking fluid.

I have a few questions;

1) Can anybody give a guess if it is repairable, or do I need a new steering box? Could it be another part?

2) I have a very busy 2 weeks. During this time I need to haul a 14,000 pound trailer about 700 miles. I know the power brakes and the steering are tied together. Any opinions about letting it go for the time if I try to pay attention to it?

3) How big a job is changing the steering box? Any special tools or unusual items I need to be aware of?

4) Any other comments from those with experience?

Thanks for any help,

Mike Schevey
