transmission mount hieght for the 47?

Pictures request.

I always liked seeing pictures of engines sitting in 'bays that they were NEVER designed to be in.

Driveline mock-up pics are cool too... . that way we can see what you have in mind for the layout, etc.

I stubbled across this last night and read every reply. My buddy has a ZR2 and loves my cummins and he is thinking very hard now since last night! Ha Ha Ha. Didn't mean to rush you or anything just curious. Take it easy!

Hi Brayden

Looks great so far your fabrication skills are very good for your age. I would like to pass on some comments in regards to running the allison 1000.

I have been running one in a 96 3500 with a V-10. We made our own adaptors to mate the chevy bell housing with the V-10 which is the same pattern as the cummins-dodge bell housing. I am by far not an expert on the 1000 series but I have learned alot! Allison shop manuals say that they will run off a throttle possition sensor. And yes a large allison shop should be able to get a program for the computer to run off the TPS. However allison does not want to support any aftermarket conversions. I was able to coax two different programs out of them. However they would not give my one that would allow shifts over 3200 rpm which is frusteration on a motor that has great power in the 3700-4300 rpm band. This is not a problem with a diesel. However the shift quality is very harsh as they do not want me complaining about the trans holding up. I explained that I did not expect a 100,000 warrantee on a used trans in a conversion. Still no cooperation. My 3500 is a custon crew cab club cab we built that weighs over 8000 pounds. as the one allison tech who tried to help pointed out that my truck weight helped soften the shifts and towing a heavy trailer helps also, but the 2-1 downshift is still brutal. What I am trying to say is that your project may weigh half of what my rig weighs and I belive if you try to run the allison on a TPS program you will be very dissapointed. What I did learn is that these trans are designed to work with an intigrated engine trans computer system. The torque management between the trans computer and the engine computer is what gives the trans the ability to have acceptable shifts. Going to a mechanical pump will defeat this happy marriage of the drive train you now have out of the motor home. I encourage you to rethink this step based on my hard earned experience.

At this time I am debating swaping out the V-10 for an 04 cummins if I can find a cumming guru who knows how to get the software in the cummins-dodge engine computer to interface with the allsion. I do love the allison as I destroyed three built dodge trans. The second gear is perfect fo very steep grades pulling over 20,000 lbs. The extra gearing and low first are excellent.

Crusing on the freeway feels like you are getting an extra 50-75 horses to the ground over the dodge. Maybe some day dodge will get a clue about a decent auto like GM and Ford has.

Well hello all. It's been a while since I've added anything to this thread. There isn't much progress, I'm sad to say. I'm waiting to get it back into the fab shop to finish the chassis. Hopefully I can have it done by TiM '04.

On another note, I'm selling the extra 2001 24v, with all the parts required for a P-Pump conversion, including a 913 pump. The extra allison and conversion parts are for sale also.

I am using the second motor I acquired. I'm keeping the VP44 pump on it and everything as it is for now. It's a 275hp calibration w/ 660 ft/lbs. It also has an HX35/12 on it. It should be fine for now.

If anyone is interested in this stuff email me or PM. It will be on ebay if not.

sorry to dig up such an old thread, but I was following this from long ago, but never posted because I wasnt a member, what the progress on this bad boy?

Well, it's currently on the back burner. I'm building a new shop, starting a business, and working on customers trucks out of the old one. I have very little time for my own projects. I hope (we'll see) to have it done for TiM '05 @ IRP.

Check out my Allison 1000 Series Conversion in this forum.
