transmission mount hieght for the 47?

Thanks for the info :) I should've given a little more background. I'm going to run full hydro steering. Utilizing a balanced cylinder, and an oribital with about 4 turns lock to lock. I've been talking with Jeff Howe (Here's a link to one of his products) about his rams/orbitals.

Since I'll have no draglink, I won't have to worry about the bumpsteer induced by it.

Hydraulic steering has come a long way in the last few years, and Jeff Howe has got some of the best setups. He's got a few that are extremely stable, up to 80mph or so. He also is working on one for some baja trucks that will be setup for higher speeds, in excess of 130.

Despite popular belief, there are no laws against hydraulic steering.

As for the bags, you need plenty of dampening, because they have incredibly high rebound rates. I plan on using twin bilstein 7100's on all four corners. They're available in whatever valving you need and are a very dependable shock.

How hard is it to adapt this type of steering to a regular 4x4 Dana 60 Dodge Front-end ? I'd like to get rid of the little slop that is in my drag link and power steering.

Can you use the existing PS pump? This idea had priqued (sp?) my interest.

Only 80MPH? My truck will see 100-120 on the weekends.

I guess I could just give him a call.

That's not his website. . but I'll get you his number :) Most people say the systems feel just like stock. . Gotta run. Time for work. .

Too bad Cummins doesn't make a pancake version, wondering what it would be like in a 75 914-6. NOT. . .

Cheers and have fun

BAM! Ya nailed it! That sounds like it'l not only work ... . but quite well too! I played with a "Rock Ram" hydrolic steering setup on that built , blown, injected 5 litre toyota I chatted about a while back. 44" boggers steer like 205/75/16's with that setup. Only issue is the unforgiving stress that was implied on the front members (Before the introduction of pressure relieves. ) And I must say it was a sweet deal! NO BUMPSTEER! However you can get Bump TRUCK STEER! :D :D Found out that one real quick :-laf :-laf

Merrick,

I would not recommend full hydro steering on a daily driven street truck. I still like the idea of having steering with the engine is not running. Yes, I know you can get some steering with an orbital valve, but the feeling is not the same or responsive.

I'm going with hydro assist on my Land Cruiser using a large bore saginaw box with 8" ram. Howe makes quality steering parts.

Good write up Brayden. I can't wait to see it in action.

Whoa, I really like that idea too! Don't want to leave that outta the equation. I think I want my drag link to stay where it is.

Have you ever shut off your power steering assisted truck? From what I've heard, the orbital's feel just about the same.

It's all about how well you match the system up. If you buy matched components from somebody knowledgeable that makes all the difference. It's definately a tradeoff for better steering ability vs high speed stability, but there's tradeoff's in everything we do. :)

I'm getting ready to order my hydro steering components from station (Sean) on www.pirate4x4.com. I've talked to him several time and he seems to know his stuff. I've heard the rams that Howe uses are bending because they are made of soft material compared to what station uses.

Well, just to update y'all. There are no updates :(

I've been working a lot lately, 60 hr's avg. I should have time to finish it up this winter when work get's slow. Stay tuned :)

Same here. I just called to see if you were still alive.

You won't believe what I just found.

Can you say MT 3060?

Complete, with key pad shifter.

I think the price is right.

Now I gotta figure out what to do with this Spicer 5831.

Yes, It's complete, no updates that I know of. I even got a "97" 8. 3 L to go with it. (Complete) As in everything! But the truck frame it came out of. A flopped truck!

I've already got the engine spoken for.

Going to pick it up next month.

It must be an MD 3060 if it's got the keypad shifter. The MT is the older hydraulic version. Good score curtis. Hmm. . Think I can squeeze an 8. 3 in an S10?
