I just got offered $33000 for my truck which i have $12000 invested into. my truck has 70000 miles on it and is on near perfect condition. Should i sell it and get an 04 or hold on to it. There would probably be $3600 that come out of my pocket for the deal. what yalls advise

for only 3600 to you... do it... and get a left over 03... maybe get a good deal and lower that 3600 a little bit!!

Are you going to turn around and put the same $12K in mods in the 2004 to make it equivalent to the 2001? If so, then the cost to move up 3 model years becomes $15,600.

Rusty

You are definately better off keeping the old rig if you are planning on doing the same mods to the new truck. If you have the money and you want a newer truck, then by all means.

Rusty and DH have good points.

Let me throw this in there, I just paid 18,500 for the 2001. 5 below with 77K on it. 18500 + 12000 + lets say 3000 of your time = 33500. You know you're not going to be satisfied with a stock 04. So 33000 + 12000 = 45000 + countless hours of your TLC.

EDIT: Although you'll probally never again find someone to give what you actually have in the truck. That's rare unless it's an antique.

6 one way...

1/2 dozen the other way. If you want a new truck, do it. If you are happy with what you have and are not having any issues or don't expect any issues that you can't deal with, then don't trade. This will probably be the best offer you will get on your truck so if you want to trade, this may be the best opportunity to do it.

Make sure the guy has the money and the check is not hot!

This is purely my opinion, and will not add anything of value to the other comments, but personally, I would never go to a 3rd Gen truck because I just don't care for the new Cummins all that much. Don't misunderstand, I will always choose a Cummins over the other brands of diesel (or wanna be diesel) engines on the market, but I will not give up my current Cummins. Now if I had to go to a 3rd Gen truck for the body and/or frame enhancements, I would be swapping out the common rail engine for my current engine :D

Tom

Thanks for all the input guys but things may be looking even better. Well here is the story

First i put my truck on Auto Trader about 3 months ago saying that if it sell for what i want i would go ahead and sell it. Well i put it on auto trader for $33000. Well since i added the tires wheels and 2wheel low kit i for got i bumped the price up to about $35000 which it has been for a while. When the Guy Emailed me i had for gotten it was at that price until he said something. which would mean that the difference in the two truck is 1367. 82 difference in price for an 04 3500 with most options in it. the truck list for $42,240. Would you all say that this is a good deal or not just on the New truck.

Thanks

Again

Trey

Tom what do you not like about the common rail

By the way The T-Rex suspension is all i would do to the truck at least for a week or two. I have the bombing disease and when i normally say i am done i usually am not. :D

I agree with Tom G and ... ... .

Get under the 04 and :

simulate changing the oil and fuel filter,

take the valve cover off as if to change the injectors,

call Rip to see if you can put a 4" on it,

climb around the engine compartment some and see if there is room to work,

call DD / Piers / Kurt and see if you can change the turbo if you need to,

call DD and see if you can "Comp" it if you need to,

CAN YOU CHANGE IT IF YOU WANT TO?

research the common rail fuel injection,

read the 3rd gen forums to see what is happening there

my . 02
