Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Help with new symtoms

My 01 3500 has started missing every so often. Sometimes it will go days without skipping a beat and then it'll miss maybe once and the brake light will come on at the same time. Anyone has similar problems?



There are no codes set and the brake light goes out on its own. I have replaced the lift pump because the fuel pressure was low and the truck has been sitting a lot lately(has a full tank of diesel).

you've got me puzzled. Do you mean the ABS light or the parking brake?

have you checked for codes with the on ,off,on,off,on off,on. Dont start the engine ,read codes in the odometer window.

The brake light not the ABS light will come on when the engine misses. This hasn't happened in a couple of days now so??? I've check for codes with the key routine and a code reader and nothing shows up..... Geo

i've come across these symptoms (admittedly not on your platform) on a couple trucks... based on my experience, i'd look for things like loose ground cables, loose/dirty battery connections and maybe even check the alternator and its connections.



the brake light coming on with no CEL is indicative of loosing battery power for just a split second.



either way these are easy things to check out.

I just cleaned the battery cables and will check for a loose ground. It's probably time to order a rebuild kit for the alternator as well. Thanks Guys.
