I just installed in a Suncoast re manufactured transmission and triple disc torque convertor. Now, I have some questions about how it is supposed to work.

1) Turbo bark. When I am driving the truck hard (WOT) and I let off the go pedal, I get a lot more turbo bark. Is this normal? Also if I am driving up a steep hill, the turbo will bark during normal shifting at medium throttle. Is this normal?

2) Is the increased presence of turbo bark indicate that I need a larger turbo, or that the transmission is not properly set up?

I am running an Edge Comp box, an AFE Mega Cannon, I have the standard turbo inside a Banks 16cm2 housing (whatever one comes with the Power Pack) and a HighRam air intake.

Any help you can give would be appreciated.

Ryan

It is probably important to note that the turbo barks primarily with the Edge box on (level 1-5). It is seldom present with the box off. When I had the whole Power Pack on the truck, the turbo seldom barked.

I don't have an automatic, but here is what I think is happening with your Turbo Bark.

You indicated that without the Comp on, the Turbo Bark is less noticable. To me this indicates that everything is working as it should.

Turbo Bark is a result of the Turbo being under load (compressing the air) and a sudden loss of demand from the engine, as in if one were to remove ones foot completely off the throttle very quickly. The turbo suddenly spools down and all the conpressed air on the inlet side is looking for a way out. That of course is back through the compressor blades.

My thinking is that when the transmission shifts, that it is deloading the engine for a moment and the throttle cuts back to prevent overspeed. I would think that this relation would be in the shift control circuits. My bet is that you might want to talk to the rebuilders of the transmission and present the problem to them. They might be able to help you out with a direction. Could be something very simple like a valve or pressure regulator within the transmission.

There are allot of guys on the forum that should be able to provide a very defined answer for you as to where to look. Good luck. :(

well I for one don't like the sound of this--turbo barking usually will result in premature turbo failure, so it seems like the transmission isn't quite setup right--I could be wrong---call Joe at Suncoast first and see what he says ----chris
