tow hitch

Gooseneck V.S bumper pull?

Hi All,

I am looking to buy a 24' enclosed trailer for long distance towing. I have heard that some of the large enclosed trailers tend to cause sway at highway speeds bue to the large "sail area" of the trailer's sides. I would like to avoid this problem from the get go and was wondering if anybody out there has had any experience with the Hensley Hitch that was advertised in alot of RV / Trailer type magazines... . The ad and theory of operation looks good but the price is

frightfully high in comparison to the standard weight distribution hitch with friction type sway control..... Any users out there with opinions on either system?... My tow vehicle will be a 1993 W250 w/ Cummins power.

Thanks!

Andrew

I have a dual friction hitch. I pull a 32' 9000 TT. Works great. However, for the cost of that setup you are half way there to a Hensley. The Henselys are awesome from everyone I have ever talked to. So, if you got the $$$ and you are doing long distance- go with the Hensley.

Note: The trailer itself can make a big difference in how it tows. I have towed mine from Chicago to Florida many times and in some pretty big cross winds and I have no problems. However when I had a half ton, it was miserable. So I guess the big dually makes a difference as well.

I have the Hensely hitch & would never tow without it. Cross winds or droping trailer wheels of the shoulder are not a problem. Use to have a Reese Dual Sway hitch, was a good hitch but did not work for my 32' Holiday Rambler. Glad I spent the money & you can put it on other trailers you buy & has a life time warranty. You can also exchange the reciever bar for different heights free of charge. Just my 2 cents.

My father is so tight, he squeeks! Last summer he sold their Ford F-250 V-10 ext cab & bought a new Chevy 1/2 ton, std. cab, short box (smallest V-8 and shortest wheelbase available) knowing that he would be pulling a 31' Airstream for mom. Then he comes to me worried about how he will pull this trailer to Duluth. (he is very weak-knee'd when it comes to towing) I recommended to give the Hensley a try since they had a 30 day satisfaction quarranty. I could not believe that he did go ahead and make the purchase! I installed the Hensley hitch for him 1 day before we left for Duluth. He swears that it pulled that 31' Airstream with a 1/2 ton short wheelbase Chevy much better than the Ford F-250 long wheelbase. I feel he now has alot more confidence while towing due to the fact he was in a much better mood and he actually drove a full 65 mph!

I guess I'll through in my 2-cents. I have been debating on the whole, "is the Hensley worth it?, issue". I tow an Arctic Fox 2007, 27-F, travel trailer and use an 14K Equa-i-zer hitch. It weighs about 9K full. It worked VERY WELL, but not as well as I wanted. I have been towing long enough to have been placed in several tense situation due to "the other guy". I just wanted a bigger safety margin for my family. I waited a year to get the best price on the EXPENSIVE Hensley. Since I have been using it, I have to say that the difference is worth the price. I tow with much more confidence and control. For me, it makes for a much more pleasurable towing experience. Joe
