my buddy recently purchased a 96 3500 dually. It has 4" exhaust and an AFE cone intake and that is all that he KNOWS has been done to the truck. I drove the truck this weekend and it felt like it had almost as much power as my 2000 with a VA box on it. This weekend we were pulling a 2 horse bumber pull trailer with 2 horses (probably 3500 lbs) and a capri camper on the back (like 600 lbs) and his egts are running really high. His probe is mounted pre turbo, but he is seeing 1000 just running around and if you really get into it pulling hills it easily goes to 1200 and even up past 1300. His boost never seems to get over 25. Any body got any ideas what is causing these high numbers? any input woudl be great

Well, 1000*F really isn't that hot and dangerous to the engine for long periods of time. I would stay away from 1350-1400*F for long periods of time, maybe downshift to get them back down to a safe level.

Find out what plate is in the pump and anything else fuel delivery-wise. Sounds like he could use some more air(bigger compressor or even just turbine swap) or a bump in timing to reduce the temps some, but again, 1000*F cruising up a hill or something like that is normal and doesn't hurt anything.

EGT's

I just got back from Dune Fest in Coos Bay Oregon pulling a 22' cargo mate trailer loaded with 5 quads and gear(6000#). I had egt's 800-1000 on the flats-pulling hills 1000-1200+ easy. Had to control the egt's with my foot.

This was the first trip with the new DTT transmission. Boy what a dream it was drive. I can't wait for the next trip.
