Got a little antsy waiting for this factory high idle reflash to get figured out. Yesterday I mounted an idle kicker I had in the tool box since my Chrysler/Plymouth tech days, brand new still in the box, I think off a mid 80's Fifth Ave. Most older carbureted veh's with a/c had them. Made a bracket that attaches to a throttle bolt. It is a one wire design that self-grounds through the bracket. I removed the ash tray and bracket, removed the ash tray "night lite", put a toggle switch in the same hole, and re-installed the ash tray. Now I fire it up, hit the switch, blurp the the throttle and she purrs at 1200 rpms. The solenoid is fully adjustable so you can have it idle higher or lower. Now I need some help "fine tuning" which I'm sure you folks can help with.

1) Is there a way to wire this thru the neutral safety switch so it will only work in park or neutral?

2) I need to remove some of the black cover that goes over the throttle, will this effect anything?

I don't have a service manual (yet), thanks in advance for the help!

you probably got yours for free so maybe this wont hurt your feelings. :D

I went junking this weekend and found one on a Quadrajet carb that fits on an existing bolt, and fits under the plastic hood. BUT, I had to modify the braket it came with. (IE cut and weld it)

dunno the part # for it. but it is a one wire type too.

as for the neutral/park switch. you could probably wire the signal lead from the switch (yours) in series with the neutral park switch and then to the relay you used to fire the solenoid. that way the switch wire would be dead until the truck is in park. which i believe, is a short on that circuit while it is in park or neutral. with it wired up this way if you take it out of park the idler wont work.

did any of that, make sense? :D

Thanks Todd, I don't know why you thought that would hurt my feelings, but yeah that's the theory I invision. What I was wondering is if anyone knew which wire to tap on the n/s switch to accomplish it.

The wire you want should be the 18 gauge black with a white tracer which should be the center wire in the connector for the neutral safety switch. By the way the wire gets grounded when in the park or neutral position in case you didn't know.

Nice!

Mongoose thanks for the pic's, I like where yours is mounted better. I have mine mounted on the top left hand bolt, next to the rad. hose, pointing down. I'm going to try to change it to the bottom because it sticks up quite a bit. Did you wire into the n/s switch or just from a relay?

mongoose, that's it. that's the one I used, and basically in the same place. my throttle bracket has a bottom to it so my kicker couldnt hang down like yours does. I had to mount mine facing down and kinda forward. but what is nice (and I didnt plan it this way) is the plastic hood fits back in place. :D I also put a small spring on the rod to help it push the throttle out. it can almost do it without having to help it.

BTW do you have a part # for these monsters? mine came off with the grease when I cleaned it :D

I have used mine twice now, and it worked BOTH times. :D :D if I make it to three, it will be worth the effort, right?

I don't have the part numbers. all i know is that it came of an old quadrajet that i had laying around. My cover still fits in place and the only thing you can see is the single wire running to it. A little more time and you would not have seen that, but i was in a hurry. I have used mine several times. Everything from running a winch to cool weather warm up. works flawlessly everytime. pull the throttle up and flip the swith. As far as being wired into the nuetral swith, i did not do that. One advantage of the way i have it wired up is that you can put the truck in 1 or 2nd gear and set the high idle and you cruise at 1200 rpm with out the bucking and jumping. My switch is wired to be hot when the key is on. then from the switch to the relay.

I found an adjustable idle stick at a truck stop last winter. $5 and it was worth it. A rubber pad sits on the throttle and an adjustable lever grabs the dashboard.

Dug it out today whilst jumping a new to me old plow truck.

Need to get under the hood and replumb my Ram's espar so I can use quick connects to heat the 6. 2D on the plow truck.

All the logger use a quickconnect setup to heat up the old skidders up here...
