has anyone done a 4gsk and had a high rpm popping sound afterwards. It's affecting my performance as i cant achieve smooth acceleration to more than 3000 rpm's

if anyone else has had this or knows how to fix it please let me know

Have you checked your lift pump? When your lift pump starts to go bad it will pop a little bit in the high rpm's. How long have you had your timing set at 22*? Is your head gasket o-ringed? Sorry for all the off topic questions, just asking.

I also am curious about the timing question. I've heard that the 16-18 degrees of timing is very conservative for guys running 370's and higher rpms. I've also heard the head gasket is marginal past this number. Is there any solid evidence to support head gasket failure on big single -370's combinations with timing over ... say... 20 degrees? Im not trying to be a smartass, just the scientist in me I guess.

also- my truck popped and sputtered at 3000RPM when the fuel filter was plugged. I would check for fuel delivery issues first.

From what I have seen 18 is about the mark for 370's, 20 wouldn't be much different..... this is looking at one truck and the pattern on the pistons.

truck runs like a bat out of hell to qoute my mechanic according to him it almost broke his neck..... according to me ... ... . it's closer to what i want. What would be an easy way to check the lift pump I'm 500 miles short of 300,000 and people(fords and chevys)cant believe how fast and strong it runs. I recently ruined my hx40 so im back to the 35 while i have it rebuilt but i want to fix the pop... . it's like it's trying to go but the fuel is somehow not being fired at the right time or doesn't have the pressure but up to 3,000 it launches hard enough to break loose 35" tires in a posi burnout in second and third gears

let me know guys i just need a starting place ya know
