The previous owner used my truck for towing, and seems to have abused the brakes considerably. I was wondering if anyone has tried any higher performance brake pads and found them worth the money? I'm going to turn the rotors and replace the pads soon, and was wondering if there was anything significantly better than going to the parts house and getting replacements?

Don't know about the earlier year trucks... ... but I've installed Performance Friction pads on my 2001 and have been pleased with them

After Market Pads

Power Wagon - After hearing seveeral reports, I went with CarQuest Premium Pads, about $40. W/lifetime guar. They have done very well now have 80k miles on them, and 50% left. I do have an e-brake. I'll replace them this spring with the same.

I'm going to try this 1 more time (frustration with my server).

I installed a set of Titanium pads about 20,000 miles ago and they are working quite well. After a brake job - at about the 10,000 mile mark I would get a pretty good pedal pulse especially upon exiting the freeway after a long run. Although I do have an E-brake there are times that I forget to use it and still no pulse.

I got mine for about $30 a set through J. C. Whitney at www.jcwhitney.com

Hope this helps

Happy trails

Performance Friction Carbon Metallic. They work well, are about $30, and are lifetime pads. Increased my stopping power and reduced fade a bunch.

I just put a set of Sam's Carbon Metallic pads on and I can tell you that they do stop the truck significantly better, however, they squeal like pigs under light braking. I stopped at McDonalds drive-up for lunch and everyone within earshot looked at me like... . what's wrong with your brakes!! I even put the anti-squeal grease on the pad backings.

Any ideas on why they are so vocal and how to correct it?

AFter conferring with one of my autocrosser friends, he said one of the best things out now is non-metallic carbon fiber or kevlar pads.

I understand the reasoning, because I always used the cheapest pads CarQuest had for a couple cars, becuase they stopped absolutely awesome, and did not wear the rotors at all. They were all non-metallic. They had no life, but at thier price (under 10 bucks a set), and at the 20 minutes it took to install them, I didn't care.

But now, I have the same concerns... the CarQuest pads are extremely metallic, and if used for a panic stop or two with the trailer on behind, will glaze badly and then we're back to what I have now.

I don't want to wear the rotors, and do want the good braking response of the softer pads. But nobody seems to sell a non-metallic pad anymore.

challenger ll---don't like to hear that you are having noise problems with the carbomets. I sell and install them daily and just haven't had much problem. I will look up your phone number and try to get in touch with you to see if we can get it cured. ---Sam

Sam..... you are the best. I appreciate your input on my brake squeal. I will try to get in touch with you this week about the problem. :)

Let me say it again... . despite my noise problem, my truck stops better than it ever has with the addition of your Carbon Metallic pads. The harder I brake, the better it stops... . no fade!! :D

Carbomets ROCK

I have installed a set on both my Cummins and my squeezes Durango,,All we both can say is this, there is way more braking power cold and when they warm its way better than any others I have had,,It also cured a very bad brake dust problem on my wifes Durango I was dealing with at the time,,Sam's personal touch and customer service in my book are second to no one and I'll use them again..... Thanks Sam for a quality product and great customer service.....

Sam or anyone,

I,m up for some new pads & would be interested in a set of the carbon metallics. I dont have a phone # for Sam if anyone can help me out there.

Anyone else had a problem with the squealing ?

Thanks,

Ian

Where can I get em and how much $$?

Sam,

Your pads sound superior. How much are they for a 2001 4x4? And do you have any good install places in Kansas City vic or in North Carolina?

Thanks,

Rick
