On the auto, it holds the brakes on (up to 3 seconds) after you take your right foot off of the brake and releases the brakes when you push the accelerator pedal.

On the manual it holds the brakes on (up to 3 seconds) until you start releasing the clutch and it engages.

I will never get used to it.

I guess I see the benefit on a manual, you would have to be on a very steep hill to benefit on an auto. So basically it stops you from rolling either forward or rearward for three seconds until you can get the power applied to go the direction you want?

Yeah. But i don't like it on my manual

I always used my e-brake for my old trucks. Set the e-brake, clutch in and stick in first gear. Give a little a fuel pedal, slip the clutch and pull the brake with my left hand. I never needed a *hill start* button.

Seems to me it holds it indefinitely. I was playing with it on the way home from work in traffic yesterday evening. Atlanta is famous for traffic, and hills. I know time always seems to be longer than it is, but I swear I had it holding me for well over a minute. Know it was definitely more than 3 seconds.

I just found it and turned it off. I think i saw it when i first got the truck, but at that time didn't know enough about it to know i didn't want it.

Mine holds for 3 seconds and then lets me roll back. Maybe the auto holds indefinitely.

As for not needing it. The cummins has plenty of low torque even at idle that it needs less reving than all the 4 banger cars i used to drive. And the granny low first makes it easy enough & smooth enough to start not needing the hill assist.

As for the EVIC, my notifications seem to have a significant delay. For example, i can run the fuel down to 40 miles left on the fuel economy screen and get no low fuel warning until after i fill it up. Then after i fill up it flashes me the low fuel warning. This week, i had driven 10 miles after filling up and before switching to the fuel econ screen. And it still flashed the low fuel warning for a second, then went away.

And i now can't seem to find the radio control that reduces radio volume at idle. I want to turn it off because it doesn't actually reduce radio volume until i start driving after stopping.

I noticed the same thing backing my 5th wheel up into my lot on a steep grade. I stepped on the brakes to get my bearing and the truck felt like it had no power once I hit the gas. Seemed like it went on forever. It didn't help that I kept my foot on the brake then gas then brake again. Probably kept the system on. I was worried that my engine or transmission crapped out!

I went to the dealer and complained and my sales guy pointed out the hill start assist was on. DUH! I never even new my truck had this.
I turned it off and won't be using it again. I'll use the old "double foot" method of hold and go thank you very much.

Do i detect a tiny bit of nostalgia in this post?

Huhhhhhh????

You won't find that feature in the EVIC. The feature technically is designed to increase volume at certain speeds to overcome road & wind noise.

.

Agreed.

I've become used to it on my wife's car, like it OFF on the Ram/Cummins.

So you're saying it doesn't decrease the volume when you stop?

I was looking everywhere. In the EVIC and the radio controls. I could swear I had seen it before. But couldn't find it today.

Since it was tied into the speed, it didn't seem too far fetched that it might be in the EVIC. It must get some info from one of the control units?

It's not in the EVIC. It's in the 84N monitor.
As mentioned, the volume increases with speed and decreases with deceleration.

I'll have a look today when I'm out and post.

Ok I did some testing and found the truck will move forward and rearward as soon as I release the brake pedal. The feature doesn't seem to be working. Does the truck need to be on an incline to work correctly? It was only a slight incline where I was testing.

I assume you have a newer truck than the one in your signature? If so, it holds for me on a slight incline, but it needs to be turned on in the EVIC. It also works both in forward and reverse. For example, my driveway is so steep I need to use 4wd to back up my driveway when it rains. It's also so steep when I back down my driveway my hitch draw bar will actually hit the concrete where it levels out. Anyway, in this driveway, even when hooked up to my trailer, the hill assist will hold when I let the foot off the brake.
