I did like the stick on the floor shifter better in my 99 .I could just reach down and eyes not off the road. But it was in the way of my right leg on the new trucks. The button requires a visual look down . Not good. We have 111 inches of snow here now sometimes you have to drive it like you stole it. The three winters old Firestone factory tires will make it thru this winter with 22 k now but I will have much better tires come next winter. Had to wear them out

I miss my manual shifter, but blind shifting on the electric shifter is just as easy.

Weight in the bed may help traction, but it also means you have to stop that weight and maneuver it. So added weight isn’t always best.

The trashforce also don’t improve traction with hundreds of lbs of payload, it would probably take thousands and that’s got negatives too.

Good driver or not, they are just junk.

Drove in many miles in many winters with poor tires. Putting weight rear of the axle helps all vechiles cars and trucks both.. I’m a very good winter driver and also know when to stay home. Blizzacs were the best winter tires I ever had but you could not run them in the summer . Too squirmy on the road and wore out to fast. Picked up a lot of gravel also

Blizzacs were never intended to be ran in the summer.

im sure the tcase would be ok to 60mph but what if you need to stop or make evasive action on those road conditions ? i would recomend common sense and good judgment.
i would also caution against engaging 4x4 at those high speeds unless it was absolutely necesarry in a emergency situation. instantly taking the ring ,pinion ,carrier , driveshaft ,cardan joint , chain , from 0mph to 60mph will stress the system over time

I knew NEXEN's were garbage when I ordered my 15 DRW so I ordered a set of Michelin's and at 200 miles I swiped them out. Sold NEXEN's first day on CL for $650. When you know something is junk why put up with it???

Whats to fast for the transfer case

When I had my 2003 5.9L rebuilt the shop had a Dodge 2500 under repair that split the transfer case in two at dry road freeway speed of ~80MPH. o_O Sure it had some other problems like being stuck in 4x4. Apparently the operator ignored it and carried on till it became an insurance claim as the driveshafts, with nothing to hold one end at speed, did some damage as well.

When we gain altitude here dry roads can have a snowbank off on one side of the road on the uphill side. When dad was running the parts delivery route a wet spot on the road one day was from said snow bank and it had turned to black ice. It was the only wet spot in 550 miles that day. Dad, who grew up in MI, hit it at full power pulling a loaded trailer and the back end stepped out. Stepped out even on that anemic 1993 GM 6.5TD with bed of the pickup also loaded heavy. He just topped a hill and was trying to get back up to the speed limit. He said the skid marks from going lock to lock to recover it were impressive. He mentioned something about motivation to recover it: The oncoming small white casket on wheels would have been the creme filling with the oncoming big rig behind them.

So if the road conditions require 4X4: USE IT! If you think it's too fast for conditions it probably is.

Good discussion. Well I think 40-45-50 Mph is fine if you need it. That’s what its for right. Putting it 4 h at a slower speed seem like a really good idea also
