Give the truck back...I think?

If you had to do all over

Ok,

More info now on the exhaust system and rifling veins after the new AU flash... I went ahead and pulled all the veins out and ran the truck for a 40 mile round trip for a good enough run to get an idea of what is going on with the setup with just the OEM Down-pipe and the rest being straight pipe.

The truck lost alot of its performance. The turbo will just not dig into the incoming air charge and pump up the pressure. The fuel mileage on these tests I ran this afternoon and tonight was just with the overhead reading as I was not taking the time to fill up or any of that sort of thing. I do think the over head will be fine as a relative guage reading for now and I can use it to tell if an improvement takes place in fuel mileage. Not so much as what kind of fuel mileage I am getting:) For that sort of thing I think most of us here know to hand figure that is the only way to know exactly what the MPG is!!!

Anyway, truck running at 68-69 throughout all the testing and using the cruise control to do that, same round trip each time I change the rifling veins and as close to being the same as I can make them. Was quite eye opening if you ask me!!!

Truck sounded a little better and more throaty with all the veins out, but the performance was way low suck guys. She was not a pooch but was not a go getter either. Fuel mileage was 12 MPG on the test run round trip, which is from my house through a little bit of town driving and some highway running and back to the house.

I then installed a rifling vein with 1. 875 full turns of the flighting. Now I hear the turbo hook up and dig into the air charge coming into the intake area and spinning the heck out of it through the tail pipe... Loud hissing sound for the lack of a better way to describe it.

The performance was hands down better also, along with a much improved fuel mileage on the 40 mile round trip. As I pulled in front of my shop door the mileage was coming on down a little more from the in town driving to the shop, but this time I was 18. 6 MPG...

So, very certain now its in getting the turbo to hook up with the incoming charge of air. Removing all the restrictive filters of the DPS system I ended up with a low suck performance wise and a fuel hungry honey LOL...

Was quite the show down I have been wanting to mess with and its been quite the learning lessons tonight as I finished up for the evening...

So next thing is we need to get the programmer guru's after us the software for this. Until that, this system I have allows me to run without the fear of the DPF getting all clogged up so much. Plus now I can add the fuel additives like the gray bottle powerservice and get the benny from it helping keep the fuel injectors cleaner and the fuel being sprayed better... Not to mention the fact that I have never had the overhead mileage guage never read 18 MPG unless I was to clear the reset button as I was going down hill and read what it was as I got near the bottom LOL...

So now I need some able testers whom have the straight pipe setup on their truck already and have also put all the sensors on the straight pipe setup they have... I know there was a few of you guys that have done this already.

If a few of you want to give one of these veins a try for me and let us all know how they run and fuel mileage, I will make a few and send them out. They will need to be installed as I will tell you of coarse, but for you guys that have the straight pipe setup already with all the tap points in place for the sensors, this added into your system won't be that hard at all.

I would ask to know what kind of elevation your running the truck, as well as what kind of temps your running in and if you have the new AU flash as well. I really would perfer to send these veins out to those running the AU flash as well...

At present I have ran these veins for over 10K miles and now with the new AU flash I got about 2K on that. This next week will be with just the one vein at 1. 875 turns also. I want to see just how this all acts now like this pulling the trailer, but at the point I am right now and at a 75-85 degree temps or hotter; this sucker runs pretty good...

trucks

It is too bad that even the 2nd gen trucks now a days are too complicated for the re&re boys that are working on them for them to run as efficiently as they may if they were tuned properly. We could burn less fuel. Oh well it is all in the name of making more money for the big corperations. That is what is important in life. :D

CD,

Funny you should ask dude... Since the AU flash I did see a little more fuel burned on the route and that was even after a little more tuning of the riflings. Didn't get all into this so much so as I was asked to put the truck back to stock for the time being to see how it performs like that.

Most interesting was to see if I get rid of the pesky 245 code I have been getting since the truck was new. So far no code at all:)

One thing I did notice after bolting my OEM system back on was just how quite the truck is... The system I have working with the rifling veins does have a lot better sound to it if you ask me, and I am not into the loud stuff at all.

I will continue to run her like this with the DPF and all back on for a while anyway, at least till I get a programmer anyway. I just fail to see how this much back pressure is going to be a good thing for the turbo and valves...

I really hate the lack of throttle response the truck has, its got the torque to move things, you just have to really nail her down and wait on the spool up for this all to take place.

Didn't see that much improvement as I expected with the exhaust system I made though, I need the electrical enhancement to get the turbo to hook up better with the system and then we might see a better throttle response.

I also seem to have an issue with the system doing a complete regen as it should. Had the truck at my dealer yesterday and it should 126 attemps at regen and 4 completed. My truck has not done the regen cycle as it should since it was new also.

So we will see how this all progresses with all this stuff back on her for another week. I am sure it will be much easier for them to trouble shoot this with everything all stock. I would like all the issues to be made right and have the truck as it was sold to be, if they can fix it.

I will admit though I am ready to run with all this on the 6. 7 and get her running as I know she can with the help of a good programmer and a few add ons:) I am sure sick of the lag time it has before she starts to pour it on and the pitful fuel mileage...

my thought on this adn try it if someone is willing is to pull the crap out and put your sensors back in. one thing i can think of is you might need an ever so slight restriction between the sensors so that the computer will see a difference and think its still there. my theroy for this is the computer only kicks to regen when it sees a certain difference in pressure if it never sees that no regen and no codes. how does it know your not pulling a trailer all the time

Jeb: I also now have the AU reflash and a new EGR Servo & EGR Valve.
The Regen cycle now lasts for 18 minutes as opposed to hours at a time and the EGT are somewhat lower.
How are your EGT readings with the DPF and Without the DPF normal and during regen.

Something to consider...

Regarding this topic in general: You don't actually have to "commit" a crime to be found guilty of one, especially in federal court.

Thousands of Americans have ended up doing time in a federal facility for "conspiracy," defined as two or more persons acting together with the intent of violating a law. For instance, Party A and Party B plan to rob a bank or an armored car; technically they are guilty of conspiracy to do so, which has its own set of penalties above and apart from those applying to an actual robbery.

True, there has to be more than just an afternoon of idle talk - theoretically. There has to be evidence of both "act" and "intent," although federal prosecutors often hang the anvil of conspiracy over the head of a defendant in order to cut a plea deal.

Let's take the example of engineering the removal of dpf devices from the new 6. 7s. If you and I get together at the neighborhood saloon and start kicking this idea around, and it goes no farther than that, we have not entered into a conspiracy.

But let's say that we make some drawings on a napkin, and let's say we shoot a few e-mails back and forth. And let's say that, at some later point in time, we find ourselves together in a garage or machine shop and make further notes or draw up more elaborate plans or actually create some sort of device to fool the computer. I guarantee you, absolutely, that any of those materials, added to our "colloquies" - legalese for "discussions" - would be valid evidence of a conspiracy, at least to a zealous U. S. attorney.

Conspiracy to do what? Why, to violate whatever law there is that says "don't muck around with those dpfs. " I'm not saying that the Justice Department is going to come after any of us who do this - they're pretty busy with terrorists and drug smugglers - but they could, if they wanted to.

And that, to me, is the scary part...

oh my god you're right!!!!

we better not talk about removing the cats on this site!!!!

quick someone delete this topic before they read my post ...

Oh its't grand to be a Canadian Eh!
Seriously people, experimenting on how best to get better performance out of our trucks while the EPA and the manufactures still cannot agree on a final revision which works is what this is all about. Prior to Rev A the truck would go into limp mode, After Rev A & Rev B the system was going into excessive regeneration resulting in excessive EGT risking melt down of the engine and or the turbo. Let us not be silly, our only defence to protect our investment in the new truck is to come up with an alternate until the powers that be figure out a way which consistently works. So, cut out the scare tactics and let there be an open forum which may develop a better way to move forward not backward.

DPF's

These regenerations systems happen is it, because of unburned fuel going out the exhaust is it? The systems sound like they need to better monitor the air and fuel entering the engine! Over air, so that it can be there for the fuel advancement. The weak point would be when the engine is warming up initally should they then duct the exhaust gas forward to counter the cooler # 1,2 cylinder area?(Where is spell check?) Perhaps loovers are a way to decrease warmup time?I guess since most of my driving is hiway my time distance is different then others for at about 230,000 km's I had 2300 hrs on the engine. With the electronics that should be around this should be doable! Instead of making things that are stop gap measures!

i have h & S delete kit on my truck. power is better but i can barely tell the difference in sound, a little deeper. the resenator in the down pipe(not a cat in there) muffles the sound horrible

When I remove my dpf I will donate it to Al Gore so he can personally install it on the space shuttle, because he cares and you should too. Please . . if you remove your dpf off save it and donate it to Al Gore. I have 3 other diesels straight piped and they gained around 4 mpg and the amsoil would last 10k without sooting up ... that saves at least 9 gallons of oil per 10k used oil ends up somewhere. the toxins produced in refining platinum is ridiculous, the energy used in mining platinum the waste water etc. . Platinum has been used to manufacture some catalytic converters. Just something to think about. I think only 10% of the people who have these trucks would remove the dpf any way. It seems to really bring up some good discussions .

Only 10% of rapists are in jail. We are all responsible for raping the environment. We are all going to pay. :)

Right now only those of us driving clean air vehicles are paying the penalty.

Those driving dirty air vehicles do not have to pay.

Oil companies are collecting the reward.

Global warming will fix everything.

Right on cumminz while were cutting our exhaust (dpf) lets cut the nuts off the rapists. And yes I agree with trying to conserve and protect the environment . Also you have one very nice rig depicted in your profile. I think it would be interesting to test the exhaust from a 6. 7 with the dpf removed . I Know some people frown on modified trucks , especially if they create more pollution. I love diesel performance and loud pipes.

I don't frown on modded trucks at all. I had 2 of them. I really don't have a problem with you guys trying to get the 6. 7s modded. I simply try to be a voice out there with just a little warning. I am afraid the EPA will soon start imposing more rules that may really cost some of us. We need to all have fun... :-laf

While Slick Willie was pres, a "nobody" supposedly raped one of his distant cousins.

Four burly men broke into his apartment at night and de-nutted him with a fishing line.

I don't think you want to mess with ..... our democratically elected government officials. :) Gore (believes he) won the presidency.

it seems *****backwards when a diesel owner talks about saving the environment. a diesel owner. the only thing i see the dpf doing is, there is no black smoke, it uses raw diesel to BURN the black smoke. what toxic fumes are you getting from (again) BURNING the carbon. how is it going to effect the environment when i am now driving a truck that is getting 12mpg on the highway vs my 04. 5 that got 18mpg on the highway. hell i am just a farm boy that works in the oilfield. i guess i should let al gore do all the thinking for me!!!!!

I currently have 3 diesel dodge trucks 2 of them straight piped a 97 & a 99Great trucks 18-19 pulling a light trailer. Just sold my 04 duramax 21. 5mpg straight piped coincidence ???? btw I really enjoyed the d-max but the cummins is my favorite sounding ,pulling , black smoke blowing, when you hear one you want one engines of all time. If i could just get my 6. 7 to do the same.

Just give us some time and most after market companies (T&C included) will start modding the hard parts found on the 6. 7. . Without or Very Minimal effects on the enviorment. . Just working on the injection system is taxing all my resources and knowledge. this may take until next fall to bring a friendly system to market
