Dont forget the 47re needs to be in N for the fluid to move/warm-up. Might also be true about the 48re. Hows bout someone with the 48re experience letting the auto persons know if it also requires N to circulate the fluid.

David,

What were you doing in Cable? My family's hunting property is up there (closer to Seeley). In fact, when I picked up my '03 from the dealer last year, the week before Thanksgiving, I drove it home, packed it up, and headed North that day for deer season! It didn't get to -30 (or even below 0), but that was my first experience with a diesel sitting outside for days in the cold between starts, and it fired right up every time. On some of the starts it went right to 1,000 RPM, on others it only increased after some time had passed.

-21F friday the 7th, 6:30am Island Park, Idaho (Moose hunting).

my truck started with no problem whatso ever.

brothers duramax started but ran very rough for 3-4minutes.

niether truck was plugged in.

yeah, would have been neat to see.

ran into a friend today that sold his 01 cummins for a 02 f350 powerstroke last summer, he got stranded up in salmon ID last saturday cuase his glow plug relay crapped out and he didnt know to "jump" it till some showed him... . hours after the fact.

needless to say, he's not impressed.

All the fords...

are at the dealers for oil / diesel mixture in the crankcase! They rode up to hunt with their buddies in the D-max or (gasp!) the Cummins. Oo.

Happy Turkey Day folks.

Thermometer on front porch reads -33. Didnt plug it in last night as i dont expect to be going anywhere today. Should i give it a test?

No worries, I have faith.

Funny thing the other morning. Had it plugged in (so i thought), turned the key, thought it was strange the grid heater light stayed on for a rather long time, finally went out, cranked right up, jumped to 1K idle speed. Cackling sound louder than normal... Hmmmm i thought...

Then i noticed the culprit... Somebody had unplugged the house end of the cord. I think it was only 10 below that morning...

minus 33!!

Dang that is COLD.

anything below zero is just a bit too chilly.

steve

BTW how long does it take to get the oil hot so you can deep fry the turkey?

Well, if they will start unplugged at -33F, I think DC would even be impressed!

Do you know what they add to the fuel up there? Just K1 or something more?

Havent tried cooking a bird outdoors, yet... Maybe next month.

I know cooking on the Weber takes a little longer initially, to warm everything up. Propane quits flowing at -40, so that'll be our outdoor cooking limit, unless we switch to charcoal.

As far as fuel, I use an additive to keep the fuel from gelling, and a homemade winter front to help keep everything warm.

Its all good!!

I have a 1st gen and I cycle the grid about 2-3 times and when I try to start it almost sounds like the battery is going to die and I only have one battery and I think that is normal with the 1st gens. It has allways started for me lowest without plug in was -15F, lots of white smoke and throttle.

Not bad for a gen1

But still waiting to hear if it will start at minus 33F

sellisrulz, let us know? Did it or not
