If you put the tailgate down the bed is 8'. I have not problems hauling whatever I want when it gets tied down properly.
12' ladders, drywall, plywood, 6 x 16... all with a 6' bed.

I prefer a long bed with an over the bed rail tool box, that is my idea truck, keep in mind the mega does have tons of storage under and behind the back seat, its almost enough to not need the tool box and just use those areas, you would then only loose the area under the tool box which I don't use that much. however I find the back seat room in the regular QC to be pretty good, I am 6'1 and could sit back there with no problems, I certainly would rather sit back there than any other sedan on the market including a cadillac

I swore I'd never get a short bed when I was hauling dirt bikes around and doing our usual road trips. When the little boy came along though, I changed my tune and ended up with an '07 mega cab. I really miss the long bed. I have been trying to sell my ARE truck cap for the long bed I had, but no one was interested in the year I tried to sell it. I decided to keep it and I want to get the long bed conversion. Reading the Innovative Customs website, they say the turning radius of the Mega Cab Longbed is smaller than the crew cab ford turning radius even though the truck is 8" longer. I've driven my buddies ford crew cab, and the turning radius is noticeable, but not unmanageable.

I hear you can go to texas and buy a Mega Cab Longbed off the dealer lot that was converted by the KS Conversion guys. That's what I would do if I had it to do all over again.

sheets of plywood or long lumber?

i don't know whats wrong you?

but i know i can haul sheets of plywood or long lumber in my mega cab

and if i want to i can make mine into a long bed lets see you do make yours into a mega cab:D :-{}

Wait till 2010. Rumor has it that they will have a crew cab that's just right. Speculating that they might offer it with an 8' bed.

I miss all the room the 8 ft bed provides especially when hauling tools or gear for hunting, camping etc. With my shortbed I seem to run out of room pretty quick when stuffing camping or hunting gear for three or four people in back. On the upside, I have absolutely zero parking issues when I am in the city and I find myself riding my short surfboards more often because they just drop in the bed:). Long bed quad would never fit in my garage so that is also a drawback. I remember swearing I would never have a shortbed truck when I was constantly hauling tools and materials in the truck bed. With a change in occupation I am now routinely happy with my short bed truck. This is definately a choice that is driven by everyone's personal situation or use... ... .
