How is the Dodgezilla turbo ?

PE4200... available?

Which Southbend is for me?

I see this turbo looks great for 300-400hp. What is a good turbo for 400-500rwhp? Something that you can just beat the crap out of and never have to worry about EGTS towing or empty. . ?

I don't think so.

Wade thanks for the info I will try that. City Diesel is sending me the different sized elbows so I can mess with the boost.

I'm with Jim.

Credit needs to be given where it is due. All of the turbos currently on the market are adapted from production parts. Ken Diaz developed the Schwitzer hybrid known as the B-1. I have no idea who built the first HX35/40 hybrid but you can call it whatever you want and it is still the same. I very seldom sell a complete hybrid, but I sell lots of parts kits so you can build your own. I don't claim to have invented or developed it I just sell the parts.

I'm running it at around 450 and am quite surprised/pleased with the Dodgezilla with 14cm WG housing. EGT's are great so far, but it is wintertime. I can still hit 1400 or so on a 0-110 run, but that's just for a few seconds.

I guess since Piers doesn't call his a 35/40 hybrid, some folks might assume that the DZ is different. Maybe it's not. Last time I checked the PDR-35 is ~1050 with 14w housing and the DZ is $995. Either turbo is about 650 without an exhaust housing. The DZ is built by City Machine in Alabama.

The beauty of these turbos (PDR 35 and DZ) is the bolt-on aspect. Most everything else requires a little more work fitting them up. These turbos are a much bigger step from OEM that I thought.

There may be some modifications coming that will make the DZ flow even more air. We'll see.

Wade - I saw your egt's and I dont think I'm comfortable with those numbers, and wouldn't go so far as to call them 'great'. I would like to have a lower max EGT, maybe around 1250 or so. If you hit 1400 flooring it empty, what about with 10,000lbs?

Oh no, I don't just hit 1400 just flooring it. Flooring it from 60-110 I MIGHT get 1250-1300. It takes a 1/4-mile type run 0-110 or so to get 1400-and it takes much longer to get there now, so I'm not spending as much time in that range. I used to run 0-100, backing out for temps. Now I feel comfy running 0-110. I get there faster and see less EGT all the way, and they come down faster. This is with under-hood air too. No Scotty yet.

That comfort zone is personal, I understand. These puller-types---now they get some TEMPS!

Now the 12v with 370's--that'll go to 1500 just flooring it! -stock turbo, but not for long. ;)

The Dodgezilla and PDR35 aren't close to the same. The stock turbo uses a 56mm wheel, PDR35 uses a 58mm and the Dodgezilla uses a 61mm compressor wheel. Does that mean the Dodgezilla is better, in applications 350hp and above the Dodgezilla will perform better, below 350hp the PDR35 will perform better. Keep in mind we were selling Dodgezillas before Piers left BD. We just didn't do a good job of selling them till we advertised on TDR. Just so there is no misunderstanding Piers is a first class guy selling first class products. Hope this helps

Actually all hybrids aren't the same, there are a bunch of 40 compressor wheels and a bunch of 35 shafts. We spent a lot of time figuring out which ones work the best. Just putting a 40 wheel and compressor housing on a HX35 doesn't make it the same as a Dodgezilla, especially if the HX35 is off a Dodge(then it has the wrong shaft). It still would be a great turbo no doubt, but it wouldn't be the same as my Dodgezillas. Saying all hybrids are the same is like saying all diesel pickups are the same and we all know thats not true. This is not ment to flame anyone just correct a inaccuracy. Hope this helps

Cool, thanks Tim! Decatur Alabama huh, I know some gasser turbo guys around that area! So who has the Twin Turbo'd CTD in Alabama that was running low 13's 3 years ago.

Jim

Thanks Tim. Sorry if _I_ misled anybody. I'll get it straight eventually.

Now some of these youngsters (CTD-wise) didn't even know that Piers worked at BD. :p

Customer service and information and good products! Gosh, we got it good around here. :D

I wish the TDR had a separate 3rd Gen performance section of the forum. Its so hard to predict if the 2nd gen mods will react the same way to the 3rd gen setup etc.

I posted it today, and got a response. But I wish steve would read this thread. It's hard to tell who has what and which trucks people are referring to. Not to sound selfish, but I"m only really interested in how this works on 3rd gens, and sifting thru it all is a pain.

I understand that your hybrid is built of specific parts, and it is your design to be named what you want. I was wrong to say that hybrids were the "same". But "best" is a broad term too, and what is best today may not be best tommorrow.

Why we do have so many chances. Sorry, but just more Q. after your post. I do have 275, Power Edge with jumper in middle. scotty II and JJ 4" exhaust with resonator. My turbo is a HY35. Thinking about switching to Mach 1. 5 or DD2 injectors later on. Any idea how many hp I do have now and how many will be with either injectors ? Which turbo will be better replacement for small HY35 without creating to much lag and help to towing ? 80% of the time I tow something with this truck. My main goal is improve towing performance. So far I don't have problem with EGT .

On my truck(EZ and 275 inj) at Nashville dyno meet highest hp was 268, with Dodgezilla highest was 291. With Mach 1. 5's you would need to ask Rip http://www.protintnw.com/sa-main.htm DD2's would get you in the 325hp range. But keep in mind horsepower numbers very from dyno to dyno. Hope this helps
