I was cleaning up some old magazines the other day and found the recall notice for the throttle cable on my 97. This thing has to be at least 3 years old. Does Dodge still have to honor it?

Forever!

I just ran my Vin through on that site and saw I have 5 outstanding saftey recalls incomplete on my truck:

1-Throttle cable and linkage

2-Secondary hood latch

3-Ignition switch wiring

4-Coil spring tower reinforcement

5-Steering shaft saftey recall

I hate bringing my truck to the dealer. I only had this truck since June.

Yes, any safety related recall is for an indefinite period of time. Even vehicles in salvage yards are subject to recall---yes that means if a junk car at the wrecking yard has an open safety recall it has to be taken care of. Seriously.

Some recalls aren't safety related and do expire--they are more like extended warranty periods on specific parts.

The dealer can tell you which are which. :)

Thanks guys. I looked on that site and all it had for mine was the throttle linkage. I had to email for anything that was sent out before 1999. Boy, I'd sure like to get a new steering shaft! :-laf

Transmission Alarm Recall

I totaled an 04 due to not setting the parking brake and letting it idle. I now have an 05 3500 and read somewher on this web site about a voluntary recall to install an alarm for notification of not being in park. I contacted Dodge and the dealer and they know nothing. Can anyone give me any added advice? I am a new member. thanks, J. W.

My neighbor has a John Deere Skid Loader, 2nd owner. One day the brakes stopped working so he took it to the dealer. Seems the Emergency Brake (electric switch) had stuck on (even though the switch and light were off) and he had run it until the brakes were shot. The cause was the engine mounts were broken causing the ground strap between the engine and chassis to break. Not only did it burn out the brakes, the chassis had tried to "ground" through the instrument cluster, burning it out in the process.

The dealer said JD had recalled it for bad engine mounts, but too much time had passed since the recall (and this one was never done) so they would not honer the recall.

At least that's how the neighbor explained it to me, anyway it cost him a ton of money to get it fixed.

The recall is in the works. The media always gets the info first. The dealers have received notification of the pending recall, but nothing else yet. I am suspecting a possible flash to blow the horn similiar to the 06's. Who knows at this point?
