If I have everything I need (and I do from another truck) to swap my auto to a NV5600, and someone to help, how long should it take for the swap? I know I'll have to do some measuring to cut the hole in the floor for the shift mech. and that will take some time. Both are 4x4. I know skill level will come into play, but I'm pretty good with a wrench. Have trans. jack etc...

Thanks, Ron

hey where in TX are you? I know CHarlan did a 4500 to a 5600 conversion. never heard of doing an auto though. I just asked a Very good mechanic your question, said it would be a full days work with lunch included :-laf... ... jeremy

Took my guy 2 days to remove my stock auto and install the 5-speed. That didn't include some drive shaft work I had to do later. Also, I had already installed the pedals and I took the seats and carpet out of the cab also.

Thanks guys for your replies.

Cowboydually, I am just north of Tyler. I was guessing a whole weekend.

Bigpapa, that is about what I figured. I shouldn't have to do any driveshaft work, although they are different as the spline is different from the Heavy Duty Transfer Case for the 5600 and the Light Duty on the auto. Length may be different also. I have the driveshaft of the truck with the 5600, transfer case, front drive shaft etc...

The local Dodge dealer quoted me $1100 if I had everything and they did not have to provide anything but the labor. They said the 'book' said it should take about 15. 5 hrs.

Thanks again for the replies.

Ron,

My guy did it for $250. Now, granted, it's his shop, it was a "buddy deal", and it was a 2wd. Just thought I'd let you know. Hard to believe a dealer would even mess with it.
