I will be replacing front and rear end fluids. I've seen threads that say 3 quarts front, and 4 rear. Is this right? Also, how much does a NV5600 6 speed take? I've read on here 5 quarts. True?

I just did mine a few weeks ago and got 3. 5Qt in the front, 4. 5Qt in the rear and about 4. 5Qt in the NV5600.

I changed to PML covers on both ends so it will be a bit easier to do the change next time.

Are you sure that isn't a typo,

The front only holds 3 quarts and the rear 4 quarts on the AAM axles on the 3rd gen trucks.

Thanks for the info. One more question though..... to drain diff fluid do I just take out the bottom bolt on the pumpkins? Then refill using the plug near the top? Thanks again.

And I used this and it was WRONG, slightly...

The tcase (NV271) took a little over 2. 5 quarts which is 5 pints... normal fill to the bottom of the fill hole...

The rear diff (11. 50) took 4. 5 quarts (stock cover)... 32x4+16=144 ounces... and this is a normal (to the bottom of the fill hole) for me... this is the second time I got 4. 5 quarts in there... I also have the LSD.

The NV5600 is correct... you can "squeeze" 5 quarts in if you have pulled the PTO cover off and got every last drop of fluid out of it... then over fill it slightly.

I just changed all these fluids last night...

Unlike the Dana Axles, the AAMs use blind holes, so to drain, you got to pull the cover... which isn't as bad as it sounds since the cover uses a reuseable gasket (rubber of steel)... it is actually pretty easy to change.

Changed front and rear with Amsoil Severe Gear 75w90. Piece of cake except for the top 2 or 3 bolts on the fron where the track bar is in the way. Front took just under 3 quarts and the rear just under 4. Did not need any limited slip additive. Thanks for the help guys.
