the subject says it all, how much has ULSD dropped your mileage?? I figure you 12 valvers would be the best to ask because your trucks got the best mileage. keep in mind winter blind will lower your mileage somewhat, when I had a 1st gen I normally got 20 mpg in the summer this lowered to about 18. 5 running on winter blind, so take that out of the equation

mileage

Yes, this summer I was sippin the oil to the tune oof 22. 5 and now I,m at 18 mpg. I always attributed that to more idle time for heat and the air you are trying to move is sooooo much more dense. But I think I,m still doing very well to get the mileage I get with the amount of miles on my 12clanger which is at 390k same transmission and 17s:D

Mileage Reduction

I have done my annual trek from MI to MA through Canada in my CRD now two years in a row. For the most part of the trip, the cruise control was set between 65-68 mph to promote good mpg and avoid trip interruption from our friends with the bubble-gum machines on their roofs.

Last December, my rig averaged 19. 7 mpg (2684 miles with 136 gallons used) for the round trip.

This year, I used the exact same route but took one less side trip while there. This year my mileage was 2453 with 142 gallons used. That equates to an mpg of 17. 27 mpg. The main differences this trip on the truck is that the engine is now running Rotella Synthetic instead of dino based. Also, the Michelins have come off and have been replaced with Bridgestone Dualer AT REVO's. After installing these tires, I did notice a minor mpg drop (0. 2 - 0. 5 mpg).

I have noticed that my 05 is much more receptive now to the cetane boost qualities of the Redline fuel additive than before with the higher sulfur fuel. Throttle responsiveness appears to improve with this product in the tank. Other than a degradation of mpg, I have not noticed reduction in drivability with the new fuel.

Hi All,

Although I have 24 valves, I too have been hit with a decrease in MPG with the ULS Diesel (about 1. 5 to 2 MPG's). I also agree that the winter months (even here in Portland, Oregon where they don't run a winter blend) will kill mileage.

My last trip was in late October/early November pulling my 34' Airstream. I really couldn't see much change from other trips over the same highways (Idaho to Nebraska). In fact, on the leg between Laramie, Wyoming and North Platte, Nebraska, I got my all-time high towing mileage, 18. 2 mpg. I think that was a fluke. Most of the fills were high 14s. I've always seen a slight difference with winter blends.

I saw my millage drop off last winter , then never came back in the spring , did a few tests but not all that I thought about looking for an issue , never found one , change to Amsoil , millage is up , so now if I could get millage from 2 summers ago added with the Amsoil that would be great .
1st 2yrs of owning 19-20 mpgs
last 1 1/2 , 17 1/2
now maybe 19+ , haven't done a full tank since Amsoil , but 1st 3/4 of tank is about 520 miles .

I haven't seen a significant change in the mileage that my truck gets since the switch. It is hard to get accurate mileage numbers because of variations in wind, traffic, route, load etc. I still average around 21mpg if I am unloaded and keep it under 65 mph.

I haven't seen much difference. I still get 11-13 pulling 32' 5th and 18 -22 solo. Mostly drive between 60-65 for mileage.

Either my injectors all went south Oct. of 06, or it was the ULSD, but my mileage went down to the tune of about 2 mpg, and never came back up.

I started buying fuel at a truck stop in my area. They handle LSD. I noticed that I have gained about 1. 5 mpg. This is with the winter blend. I will keep buying there as long as the price is reasonable compaired to the other places where I fuel that only carry ULSD.

That's because it's steady downhill (except for the hill east of Laramie). My Freightliner would get 10 mpg along that stretch, even loaded to 79,900 lbs (as long as there's no headwind... even more when there's a tailwind.

Now, going westward, along the same Interstate, it's a LOT less.

Sadly, when it comes to my Dodge CTD, I have to think months, not miles... :-laf

I keep hearing about winter blend. Just what is it?? They don't add ethanol like gas. Yes there is a difference in old diesel and ULS. Some places there is anti-gel added but I don't thik that would change MPG.

It is a additive that lowers the gel point. When it gets real cold some distributors will add #1 fuel to the blend which will lower your fuel ecomomy. #1 fuel has less BTU's then #2. Less BTU's = less performance and ecomomy.
