What needs to be done to remove the oil pan? Does the motor mounts need to be unbolted, or will the pan have enough clearance to go between the bellhousing and also clear the engine crossmember? Anything else that needs to be moved?

Also, is there anything I need to watch for while dropping the pan?

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks,

Robert

On the two wheel drive trucks, the transmission and adapter plate has to be removed and the engine lifted off the mounts. Then you can remove the pan bolts and reach in to remove the oil dip tube. Do-able but a tuff chore.

Sorry, I don't have one so I don't know how much clearance there is. PM Michael Miller. His is fwd and Michael is very knowledgable.

Sheesh, once again my reputation preceeds me... ... . :-laf I've never had the oil pan off any 4X4 CTD trucks. I hope that I won't have to do that for a while. It does look very tight. At the very least I'd say the engine will need to be lifted, and the pickup tube unbolted and dropped in the pan. Sorry I can't help more. :(

Jack the truck up and let the suspension hang, also when you get some room the pick up tube needs to come off...

when I did my '89 w350 4x4 I let the suspension hang and undid the motor mounts and jacked the engine up with a engine lift till it hit the fire wall tight. . then I swapped the pans out. The motor mount bolts and the oil pan pick up were the tuff parts of the job. . I have to do it again in the spring when I do my twins swap. . but I may just pull the whole engine then... argh. . because I want to do fire rings . .

Thanks
