This is for anyone that has installed a "Dynatrac" kit on thier Ram. How did you modify the lug nut covers to fit over the Dynatrac unit and would it work to locate the center of the cover then use the appropiate size hole saw to cut the plastic cover? Truck is a 2003 2500 4x4.

Yes, that is how I did it.

I have a set already cut if you want them. I decided to remove all four covers. You can have the back two as well, if you want. PM me your address if you want them.

The hole saw works perfectly if you drill from the outside in using a drill press.

It is also beneficial to have a helper holding the cover during drilling. When I did mine, I replaced the factory studs with Dorman's, as the Mopar studs were $11/ea from the dealer. The studs supplied by Dynatrac were too long for the steel wheels.

Thanks to all that replied, and helped a bunch. I called Dynatrac and asked about the studs being too long for the covers and the steel wheels. I was told that they used Dorman studs and if I could get the # that will work with either perhaps they will offer those as an option for the Ram applications. Will keep you all posted and thanks again, you guys are great.

The Dorman part # is 610-471 for anyone who is interested. I chose to replace mine rather than cut the studs supplied by Dynatrac.

I do run aluminum wheels upon which my street tires are mounted however my studded snow tires are mounted on steel wheels which I run at least four months out of the year. I wish I didn't have to but I do.

rcurtis, with the number 610-417 Dorman studs can you run the hub covers with both the aluminum wheels and the steel wheels?

You transposed the part # from 417 to 417, but I don't know the answer to your question. It would seem to me, though, that longer studs would be required for the alloy wheels versus the steel wheels.

My bad, thanks for catching that before I called Dynatrac. As I understand the studs that the kit comes with are too long for the steel wheels but just fine for the aluminum wheels, and that the "Dorman" studs mentioned correct that situation so you can run either and still run the hub covers. I just wanted to make sure before I called Dynatrac and got the ball rolling with them with the intent to have a "Dodge Ram" specific kit so we didn't have to swap out the studs. Thanks again. Rcurtis, I just talked to Dynatrack and they will sell me the kit minus the studs and give me a credit of four dollars per stud to help with the cost of the Dorman studs. Before I do this can you measure the length of the Dorman studs #610-471 and compare them to the factory studs so I don't make another mistake and wind up back in the same boat I am in now?

I'm in no hurry so take your time. Thanks Larry

Dorman studs

I just checked the Dorman studs against the factory studs which are still installed in my old hubs- the length is the same. The threaded portion of the Dorman studs is 2-1/8". This is the portion of the stud that protrudes from the face of the hub, not the face of the rotor. When you get to it, the easiest way to install them is with a ball joint press.

Thank you very much. When I have a wheel off my truck I will check that measurment to see how it compares to the 2 1/8 inches of the Dorman studs. If it is the same that would mean that I could run the hub covers with both the aluminum wheels and the steel wheels. Thanks again.
